Two very special evenings filled with emotion, remembrance, and hope for the future 💙🖤

On May 8, 2026, the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Officer Jacob Derbin Foundation Scholarship Award was proudly presented to recipient Caroline Kimmel.

On May 19, 2026, the Cuyahoga Heights High School Officer Jacob Derbin scholarship was presented to recipient Samantha Vallee.

This scholarship was created in memory of Officer Jacob Derbin, a young man whose life was built on service, compassion, integrity, and kindness. Before he was Officer Derbin, badge #14, he was my son… a brother, a friend, a National Guard soldier, and someone who truly believed in helping others and making the world better.

Watching these young women receive this award was both heartbreaking and beautiful. It is a reminder that Jacob’s light continues to live on through others. His legacy is still inspiring hope and purpose in the next generation.

Caroline and Samantha, you were chosen not only for your accomplishments, but for your character, determination, and the promise you carry within you. We hope you continue to lead with kindness, courage, and compassion in all that you do.

Jacob’s life mattered deeply. His legacy matters deeply. And because of young people like you, his memory will continue to inspire others for years to come.

Congratulations again to both of you. We are so proud of you 💙 Thank you also to everyone who has donated and continue to support Jacob’s Foundation. 5 scholarships have been given in the span of one year. Each at $1,400. God bless you all.

In December, we were honored to award our 2025 Officer Jacob Derbin Foundation National Guard Memorial Scholarship to recipient, PFC Jamal Kessler. A young man who reminds us so very much of Jacob.

Jamal serves in the same National Guard unit Jacob once did, and (so closely mirroring Jacob’s own path) he is now in the police academy, with graduation coming this April.

We’re honored to support a soldier who reflects Jacob’s courage, heart, and dedication to making the world a better place.

A heartfelt congratulations to Tamir Julious, who was awarded the Cuyahoga Heights High School Officer Jacob Derbin Foundation Scholarship in May.
This scholarship is so much more than an award, it is a reflection of Jacob’s heart, his integrity, and his unwavering desire to make the world better. Tamir has shown the same spirit of kindness, determination, and service that Jacob carried every single day. It is an honor to see Jacob’s legacy live on through young people like Tamir. We wish him every success and can’t wait to see the incredible difference he will make in the world.

Guardians of Hope and (Joe Walsh and his parents too) I just want to take a moment to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This meant more to me than I can fully express. It was such an honor to be there and to receive the check on behalf of the Cleveland Police Foundation and even more so knowing that this generous donation is going to Jacob’s foundation where it will help us provide scholarships in his name.

To see this team come together and play with heart, finish strong, and support something so close to my soul is something I’ll never forget. The love and support that Cleveland has shown for my son, Euclid Officer Jacob Derbin, and for me as his mom, has been overwhelming in the most beautiful way. This city, this team, and this community have shown me what true brotherhood looks like.

Congratulations on an incredible season and a well-earned 2nd place finish. Your commitment on and off the field truly honors your mission and Jacob and Jamieson's memory. To all the sponsors and teams involved in the Officer Down Tournament, thank you for helping make this possible and for standing with us in such a meaningful way.
