As you may know, the perspective purchaser of the Whiskey Lounge property has proposed an initial concept plan to demolish the existing restaurant and construct a complex containing 101 housing units upon that site. The developer, Hightide Brielle, LLC has filed a lawsuit in the Monmouth County Superior Court against Brielle’s Mayor, Council and Planning Board seeking the Court’s approval of their 101 housing unit concept. Further, it is our understanding that Hightide and the town are in negotiations in an attempt to settle this lawsuit and we believe Hightide has proposed a revised concept plan that would leave the restaurant intact and build a 79 unit housing complex alongside. We believe both the 101 housing unit complex and the 79 housing unit complex far exceed any reasonable density for that site. Further, allowing either plan does not keep with Brielle’s quaint character and appearance.
As an aside, a few years back the “Grieco Beverage” site, which is just down the street from the Whiskey Lounge site, was sold to a developer. Recently, the developer and the town agreed to a total of 20 Housing Units to be constructed on the “Grieco Beverage” site. The “Grieco Beverage” site encompasses approximately 1.33 acres. This equates to a development of 15 housing units per acre [20 housing units divided by 1.33 acres]. The Whiskey Lounge site encompasses 1.66 acres. Using that same 15 housing units per acre would equate to 25 housing units total [15 housing units times 1.66 acres] and no restaurant for the Whiskey Lounge site. Far less than the 101 units or 79 units proposed by Hightide and much more in-line with keeping Brielle a quaint and picturesque town.
While the Whiskey Lounge Property is not an item listed on tonight’s [Nov 18, 2024] Mayor and Council’s Meeting Agenda, as Brielle residents, we need to let the them know we are opposed to the over development of this property. If you’re able, please attend this meeting and others in the future and voice your opposition. We cannot allow the members of our governing bodies to say they were not aware of our opposition.
