Having a way to filter water in the back country has many benefits for your enjoyment and safety. If you’re counting on a specific water source to save on water weight, make sure you have good information on it as the dry summers can dry up many sources that are plentiful other times.

The season of berries 🫐 is coming into full swing. This can be a rewarding and delicious 😋 time in nature with several types of locally or within a few hours away.

Misidentification of berries can seriously diminish the fun 🤮 💩 or be fatal 💀 in some cases. Make sure you’re 100% sure of anything you put in your mouth 👄 harvested from the woods 🌲.

Team Training: several members attended training this weekend for a mock search. The team split up to cover different trails using hasty search methods and practiced use of CalTopo taking photos of clues and adding them to the map while maintaining radio communication among the team. Our volunteer subject was found to be in good spirits, just a bit lost.

Here’s some great information from Maine Forest Rangers on wildfire smoke. This is a good thing to check in addition to the weather in the summer months when planning outdoors adventures.

Ground level concentration of particulate matter 2.5 microns and smaller (PM2.5) in units of micrograms per meter cubed (µg/m3).
