🚧 Hwy 36 Roadwork 🚧
Friday, 8/7- Thursday 8/16

Route 36 (3.8/4.1) – Tree work is scheduled between Klein Lane and Fisher Road on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11 and 12, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Travelers should expect 5-minute delays.

Route 36 (4.1/6.1) – Construction upgrades, including striping work, are scheduled near Carlotta from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Travelers should expect 15-minute delays.

Route 36 (15.7/16.3) – Slide response west of Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Travelers should expect up to 60-minute delays. Check Caltrans District 1 on social media for updates.

Route 36 (19.6) – Emergency work west of Maple Grove will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Travelers should expect 5-minute delays.

Route 36 (25.3/25.4) – Drainage work is scheduled between Little Larabee Creek Bridge 4-102 and the Caltrans Bridgeville Maintenance Station from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Travelers should expect 10-minute delays.

Route 36 (34.5) – Bridge work at Butte Creek Bridge 4-116 will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Travelers should expect 5-minute delays.

This was a great Town Hall. I watched it. It dispelled a lot of false ideas about what El Niño means in science which is simply a cyclic warming of the equatorial ocean. It noted that it is a regular cycle that occurs with varying intensity and that this year it is exceptionally strong and layered over already warm ocean water.
Warm oceans can influence the intensity of storms (consider hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico).

I appreciated the California OES noting they have been prioritizing ‘pre-positioning’ emergency resources in areas that would likely be affected by fire, flood, storm or whatever. We have actually seen this with both fire and utility personnel in fire season or before big wind events.

Summer heat means more than just hot temperatures. As temperatures climb across Trinity County so do the risks for travelers.

Before you head out:
-Check your tire pressure and tread.
-Test your battery.
-Check coolant and engine fluids.
-Carry plenty of drinking water.
-Bring a charged cell phone.
-Don't let your fuel tank get too low when traveling through remote areas.

The beautiful roads of Trinity County can also be some of the most remote. A little preparation before your trop can make all the difference.
