Transylvania County 250 Celebration Committee

In honor of America’s 250th birthday, the Library of Congress, its Affiliated Centers for the Book, and PBS Books are working in partnership to create a video series that explores the vibrant literary heritage of the United States.

Each installment focuses on a different U.S. state or territory, showcasing the profound influence that local writers, poets, and storytellers have had on the cultural identity of their region. Each program also includes unforgettable authors, books, bookstores, libraries, and the real-life locations that inspired great works.

In addition, each episode features items from the collections of the Library of Congress—maps, photographs, sheet music, and more—that help illustrate the stories and reveal surprising connections. 17 have been completed so far:

It's Constitution Week!

The Patriot's Pint Prize Drawing was held on Saturday, August 2 at the Visitor Center.

All winners were from Transylvania County and took home a mix of merchandise and gift cards ranging from $50-$85>

The history of the signing of the Declaration of Independence was highlighted by Doug Powell before the completed stamp cards were drawn.

A great big thank you to all participants in this fun initiative to highlight local businesses and Revolutionary history!
