Transylvania County 250 Celebration Committee Welcome to the Transylvania County Official America 250 Committee page! How have those ideals impacted our last 250 years? How do they resonate today?

Welcome to the page for the Transylvania County Official America 250th Committee. In partnership with the State of North Carolina (https://www.america250.nc.gov/) we are planning lots of great activities to celebrate the 250th celebration of the Declaration of Independence. In 2026, America will commemorate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the development

of a new nation dedicated to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” In the years since, our country has undergone many changes, and faced many challenges. This commemoration offers us a unique opportunity to reflect upon our country’s founding ideals. When are we US? Explore with us the pivotal events, places, and voices, both historical and modern, that have shaped our state and country from the Halifax Resolves to the civil rights movement, and beyond.

Celebrating America250 - Join us on Saturday (5/23) at White Squirrel Weekend at noon on the Main Stage where community members will be commemorating the Edenton Tea Party through reenactment!
In the fall of 1774, fifty-one women in Edenton, North Carolina undertook a revolutionary act: they signed a resolution in protest of Britain's colonial taxation policies and gave their oaths to boycott British goods. Later remembered as the Edenton Tea Party, this event was an early example of women's political activism during the American Revolution.
