Need Silvermont Park volunteers sat June 13 at 9 am

We will not have our usual first Saturday Deadfall and Clean-up day tomorrow. Instead, we will have a mulch spreading morning next Saturday, June 13 from 9:00 to about 10:30AM. We still have about 10 to 12 cubic yards of mulch available after we mulched the beds around the mansion. We wish to spread the remaining mulch by the entrance to the parking lot. The challenge is moving it from the far side of the mansion over to the entrance. If we can get about eight volunteers and at least three (hopefully four or more) wheelbarrows, we believe we can get a good assembly line arrangement set up and have it moved and raked in less than an hour and a half.

If you are available to help out next weekend, please join us. If you have a wheelbarrow to bring, please do. The more of these we have, the quicker we will get finished. Shovels, mulching forks, and rakes are also needed.

Silvermont Museum opens up for the season!

The second-floor museum at Silvermont has opened for the April-September season. Established in 2011 by Friends of Silvermont, the museum includes many family artifacts and items original to the house. The Transylvania Heritage Museum administers the museum, and provides a docent for free guided tours (donations are appreciated).

The museum is open on Thursdays from 9:30-11:00 AM and Fridays from 1:00-3:30 PM. Come visit the home of Brevard’s most prominent family and learn about their contributions to the community.

This Saturday, April11 at 8:30 AM, Friends of Silvermont members will be gathering at Silvermont Park to pick up deadfall and continue kicking off a new year of landscaping efforts. I know that 8:30 sounds pretty early but we have a conflict with the Assault on the Carolinas bike race that is starting at 9AM on Main Street in town. If you can come early, you may be able to park in the Silvermont lot (especially behind the mansion) or on the nearby streets.

The planting beds around the mansion have been weeded and we should have some mulch to spread. If possible, please bring some tools including shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows. Some tools, including rakes, saws, shovels, and tarps, will be available at the park as well. We plan to work for about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Please join us if you are able.

Folks, one more day of pumpkin fest work, to start at 10 am at Silvermont Park after the WSPA your Carolina morning show.

Can you give 2-3 hours Fri Oct 31?

Here's what's left to do to put pumpkin fest to bed for 2025.

"We have Sea Serpent left to sister and transport; Under the Sea scrim to remove; tennis court blinds to remove; 2 tents to take down; transport packed fences; remove all the decorations for the TV show on Friday morning; move stuff to back porch; move stuff to the 3rd floor; clean out Go Mini; transport Ghost Circle.

If you want to come to the Your Carolina Live audience, please be there with your own chair and in costume before 8 45 AM tomorrow."

It's been a hard week, working in the rain and cold with the goal of getting everything out of the park before Halloween evening to avoid mischief.

Any help would be appreciated. Just meet at the side porch of Silvermont Park mansion. Joe Dapkins is the lead. Contact me [email protected] if you have questions.

Friends of Silvermont is excited to announce that on Halloween, Friday, Oct 31 from 9-10 am, WSPA Your Carolina show will be broadcast live at Silvermont Park , hosted by Jamarcus Gaston.

You are invited to dress in costume and be part of the show audience. Please bring a stool or camping chair so you have seating, and arrive by 8:30 am so the show goes smoothly..

Clips from the show will be available that afternoon on our website www.yourcarolina.tv. The segments will also be available on our WSPA + app that day as well.

Friends of Silvermont will be represented by vice president Joe Dapkins . Rebecca Suddeth will talk about the mansion and history museum.

The show will open with the witches flash mob.

Other Transylvania Halloween traditions will also be shared, including Lagoon of the Lost - Haunted Attraction .

Pumpkin Fest has left up a few of the front of mansion displays to add to the ambiance.
