In 2017, Senators Steve Daines and Jon Tester from Montana introduced a resolution recognizing May 5, as a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls. It was in response to the murder of Hanna Harris on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation and other abductions and killings of Native women across the United States. Since 2017, actions on May 5th to honor MMIW at the local, regional, and national level continue to grow across the United States and internationally.

On April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States, setting a powerful precedent for leadership, unity, and service that still guides our nation today 🇺🇸

Standing on the balcony of Federal Hall in New York City, Washington’s inauguration marked the beginning of a new chapter—one built on courage, vision, and the hope of a people determined to govern themselves.

More than two centuries later, we remember not just the moment, but the legacy: integrity in leadership, peaceful transitions of power, and a commitment to the ideals of freedom and democracy.

Today, we honor the man who helped shape the presidency—and the nation we continue striving to perfect.
