I'm recovering from an epic 2 weeks... 5days of road work right into 2 days of my hunting apprenticeship then right into 7 days of maps meet...

So many amazing people come to our event, i love this community... so brave to come out into the elements to weather, a much needed, 5 day storm. We had people from across the country including; Vermont, florida, Michigan, Hawaii, Ohio.

Laughter was heard late into the night, greeting the sun as it rose even... our spirits were lifted once again...

We asked for an epic event, and the spirits provide... epic storms, epic challenges, epic work traders all leading up to whats to follow... an EPIC adventure! Our fondest memories are usually when our comfort levels are pushed... better this than 95 and humid... am i right?

Getting ready for MAPS Meet, we found this in camp. Our very own "Lightning Tree." The lower face of the trunk sent a 2x6x8 sized piece of wood flying through camp and landed 60' away, shrapnel was found as far as 100' away from the tree...

Saturday and Sunday were part of our bow hunting series. One day we had the pleasure of having Maryland Dept of Natural Resources come out and lend us a ladder stand and eight 3d targets for a day of treestand safety and archery training. Part 2 will come soon.

We had it going on at the Ancestral Knowledge Museum & Research Center!

At one point we had bow making and hide tanning going on simultaneously.... i like to call it parallel teaching, when people are learning different skills together in the same environment.

Not only is it efficient and effective, everyone absorbs information about the skills around them. It also creates a level of passive support, experiencing the effort of others working hard for an end product. It demonstrates that nothing comes easy and we're not alone... this is the essence of community...

Had a great week with 6 new boyers... all learning about the magical transformation of a long log into a dependable hunting tool. They did a great job, learning how to use all the different tools and the gift of patience...

Bow making workshop preparations have been underway for the last couple days. I reduced some fatty staves down in size to remove some bulk and unsavory knots. I built another shaving horse, bringing the heard up to 8, including three I built 22 years ago. I added leather slip pads to the clamp area. I also began taking an osage stave down to a ring.

Im looking forward to this workshop. It should be a good time.
