November is CONTRA COSTA COUNTY Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month!

Contra Costa County joins communities across the state in recognizing the history, values, and contributions of Sikh Americans. Educators can access free classroom resources from the Sikh Coalition to support inclusive learning:

📘 Elementary: “My Shield” activity to explore Sikh identity
📗 Middle School: Lessons on notable Sikh Americans
📙 High School: Sikh American Timeline project
📚 Library Toolkit: Books and displays to celebrate Sikh stories
🎓 Professional Development: Free trainings for teachers and administrators

Let’s work together to promote understanding and respect in our schools. For help organizing activities in Contra Costa County,

With sincere humility, PCA Brentwood extends its deepest gratitude to Contra Costa County Superintendent Lynn Mackey for officially declaring November as Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month in our county’s schools.
This recognition carries tremendous meaning for our community. It creates an opportunity for students, educators, and families to learn about the Sikh faith, our rich heritage, and the values we hold close—equality, service, compassion, and courage.

By bringing Sikh history and culture into classrooms, we take an important step toward fostering understanding, combating misconceptions, and building a more inclusive environment for all children.

We truly appreciate Superintendent Mackey’s continued commitment to diversity and her willingness to amplify the voices and stories of Sikh Americans across Contra Costa County. Her support ensures that future generations grow up with greater awareness, respect, and unity.

Thank you for helping create a community where every child feels seen, represented, and valued.
