The EDPA asks that you keep Lance Rubin, EDPA President, and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Over the weekend, Lance’s grandson, Layne Hearne, suffered a spinal injury during a high school wrestling match. His mother, Jess, shared today that Layne remains in good spirits, but he has a long road to recovery ahead. At this time, he has no feeling from his chest down and is struggling with dexterity in his hands; Layne and his family are taking each day one step at a time.

Please continue to pray for strength, healing, and comfort for Layne and his entire family as he begins his recovery journey.

“Chew on This” - A weekly post to highlight some of the Equine dental cases that our dental providers have worked on over the years.

So let’s get started - Week 1.

Dentigerous Cyst - Also known as an Ear Tooth!

Dentigerous cysts are composed of bone, tooth material and soft tissue. These cysts typically present at the base of the ear in the form of a hard mass. It is considered a supernumerary tooth/extra tooth.
Symptoms include swelling and fluid/pus drainage

Removal of these cysts must be done surgically. If all cells are not removed, the cyst will continue to drain.

Today's Certification Workshop was a resounding success. Participants had the opportunity to examine complex cases and receive direct feedback from our doctors and certified providers. We even managed to concluded the event just before the rain rolled in.
