Today, we remember Dolly Parton, an extraordinary songwriter, performer and storyteller whose influence reached far beyond country music.

Dolly and Harold Shedd crossed paths through Nashville’s close-knit music community, including during the years when Harold’s Music Mill Studio was a gathering place for some of the industry’s most talented artists, writers, musicians and producers.

One story shared through Behind the Shedd captured the spirit Dolly brought to her work. She spoke about giving everything she had to each song, show or project, then trusting the outcome to God. It was a philosophy that reflected the faith, determination and heart she carried throughout an incomparable career.

Dolly’s music, generosity and unmistakable spirit touched generations, and her impact on Nashville and the world will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends and all who loved her.

Happy Birthday to Billy Ray Cyrus, today, August 25!

Harold Shedd and Billy Ray remain very close friends, as Harold played an important role during the early stages of Billy Ray’s career, helping introduce audiences to a sound that would soon make a major impact on country music. His debut album, Some Gave All, featured songs including “Achy Breaky Heart” and became one of the defining country releases of the early 1990s.

It’s one more chapter in Harold’s decades-long career working with artists who reached generations of listeners. The Harold Shedd Music Gallery will preserve those stories in his hometown of Bremen, Georgia.

Before streaming playlists and social media, radio was one of the most powerful ways a song could find its audience. Harold Shedd began his career working in radio stations in the Southeast before moving on to produce massive hits in Nashville and head Mercury Records.

For Harold Shedd and the artists he worked with, radio helped turn records into hits and introduced country music to listeners across the country. Those first spins could change the course of an artist’s career and become part of the soundtrack of people’s lives.

His influence is woven into the sound of country music, and the Harold Shedd Music Gallery will honor that legacy in his hometown of Bremen, Georgia.
