🌾 Fun Fact Friday – Midwest Edition 🌾

Did you know the Midwest was once covered in millions of acres of native prairie and early successional habitat, the exact environments quail and other upland wildlife need to thrive?

As farming practices, development, and land use changed, much of that habitat disappeared. That’s why conservation efforts right here in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and across the Midwest are so important today.

Through habitat restoration, native grass planting, pollinator support, and responsible land stewardship, Quail & Upland Game Alliance is helping bring life back to Midwest landscapes, supporting quail, pheasants, deer, turkey, songbirds, and the landowners who care for them.

💚 Healthy habitat means:
• Stronger wildlife populations
• Better soil and water quality
• A preserved outdoor heritage for future generations

The Midwest has always been built on land, community, and conservation, and together, we’re keeping that legacy alive.

❄️ Fun Fact Friday: Winter “Presents” in the Field!

Did you know…..

Winter might be cold, quiet, and a little frosty, but for upland hunters and conservationists, it’s actually full of presents, you just have to know where to look. 👀

When the snow settles, it reveals clues nature usually hides. Tracks, wing prints, feeding trails, sheltered roosting spots… all of these “presents” help us understand how wildlife survives the toughest months of the year.

These winter gifts teach us:

🎁 Where quail and upland birds seek cover
🎁 Which habitat areas are truly supporting wildlife
🎁 How predators, food sources, and weather patterns affect survival
🎁 Where improvements can be made for spring nesting success.

Every print in the snow is a reminder that habitat matters year-round, and the work our members do helps ensure wildlife has safe, sustainable places to thrive, even in the harshest seasons.

So today, as winter wraps the outdoors like a giant gift…...

Let’s celebrate the “presents” we find in the field, and the wildlife stories they reveal. ❄️🐾

As we have been working on the next edition of our newsletter we would love to see a special section dedicated to our youth and their fall harvest!

Our youth deserve to have their special spotlight since they are our next generation of dedicated hunters! We look forward to congratulating them on their job well done!

Did you know the Quail & Upland Game Alliance is so much more than quail and upland birds?

Most people hear “QUGA” and think habitat work just for quail, pheasants, and upland game… but here’s your Fun Fact for the week:

👉 We are an ALL-WILDLIFE alliance.
👉 We support entire ecosystems.
👉 We work alongside ALL wildlife societies, landowners, conservation partners, and environmental stewards.

Every time we plant native grasses, restore habitat, or partner with local communities, we’re creating healthy environments for:
🦌 deer
🦃 turkey
🦉 owls
🦊 fox
🐝 pollinators
🪶 songbirds
…and countless other species that call these habitats home.

QUGA isn’t just about one bird or one season — it’s about protecting America’s wildlife legacy as a whole.

🐦 Logan County QUGA Banquet Recap 🏆

What an incredible night in Logan County! Our annual QUGA banquet was one for the books!

Attendance was up over 20%! A delicious ribeye dinner was served and there were fantastic auction items that brought the community together in a big way.

A huge thank-you goes out to everyone who attended, donated, and volunteered to make this event such a success. Your support helps us continue our mission to restore upland habitat, support youth programs, and grow our local conservation efforts.

Great Job Logan County QUGA for hosting such an amazing event!
