The 250th anniversary commemoration of the Westminster Massacre was celebrated on the King's Highway in Westminster, VT during March 2025. The public gathered at the Westminster Courthouse site on Shattuck Road as marked by the DAR monument, erected by the Brattleboro chapter in 1902. Historians told old stories of when forces of British and New York control were ousted from eastern Vermont. The court house was built in 1772 during the time of King George III. The massacre occurred on March 14, 1775, just five weeks prior to Paul Revere's ride. William French was one of two young men to die as a result of the massacre. From left, Robin Reilly, DAR regent of the Cavendish-William French chapter, Carolyn Handy, DAR regent of the Brattleboro chapter, and Andrew R. Whipple, Secretary, The Vermont Society of Sons of the American Revolution (VTSSAR).
