Why do you Jaycee?
Me? I Jaycee because… someone once told me to.
At the time, I needed it more than I realized. I was a stay-at-home mom with three kids, feeling stuck, a little lonely, and honestly just needing a reason to get out of the house—and yes, even a reason to shower some days. The Jaycees gave me purpose.
Now? I Jaycee because it helped me build my career, my confidence, and my community- I keep going because I tend to revert here and there if I am not staying active... and I now have this sister she's killing it and I need to keep up.
And that sister? She joined because she needed a push—to network, meet people, and get involved. Fast forward a few short years… now she’s the JCI Minnesota President.
This photo? It’s a perfect representation of me slowly becoming jealous while she makes all these new friends… which, technically, are also my friends… but still. You know what I mean. 😂
That’s the power of this organization.
Everyone joins for a different reason. That’s why your 30-second commercial matters. You have to read the room, match the personality, and find what someone needs. Be the salesperson—find their pain point and show them what the Jaycees can do for them.
Because there truly is a place for everyone.
As long as we stay true to our mission—providing leadership opportunities through civic engagement, building leaders, and helping people find purpose (and maybe even a reason to shower)—we will continue to grow.
Recruitment matters. And you’re not alone in it. This team is full of pros, and if we don’t have the answer, we know someone who does.
