We volunteered at the SeaMonkey Apparel Christmas in July 5K and I strapped the GoPro on our Co-Lead Ambassador.

This morning started with her carefully handing runners cups of water and politely saying, “Here you go.”

By the end of the race, she was sprinting back and forth from the water table yelling, “WEEEEE!”

Honestly, it might be the most accurate representation of community service I’ve ever seen.

You show up because it’s the right thing to do. Then you start talking to people, helping out, being part of something bigger than yourself… and before you know it, you’re having a blast.

Long before founding Good Teammates, Jeff and Jamie spent two years traveling the United States. They visited 32 of the 63 national parks and dozens of other sites managed by the National Park Service.

Along the way, we developed a deep appreciation not only for these incredible places, but also for the dedicated people who work every day to protect, preserve, and share them with future generations.

When the National Park Service reached out to them to assist with an event, they JUMPED on it. Of course, it was a way of giving back to parks service, but was also an opportunity for them to teach their own kids pride a love for the America’s most special places.

On Saturday July 18, the founding family of Good Teammates along with NPS staff and volunteers from the National Parks Conservation Association cleared natural debris that remained from the 2024 hurricanes. The dead trees and branches created a significant fire hazard to the area.

“If we want our children to grow up loving these places, they deserve the opportunity to care for them.

Our national parks don’t stay beautiful by accident. They exist because generation after generation has decided they’re worth protecting. We’re grateful to have served alongside staff from De Soto National Memorial and volunteers from the National Parks Conservation Association to play a small part in preserving these places for those who come after us.

We believe community service does more than improve the places around us, it shapes the people who serve. When young people are given the opportunity to care for something bigger than themselves, they take pride in it.

Leave it better than you found it.

Good Teammates is looking for 4-8 Manatee County high school students for a reoccurring community service opportunity. These students will be visiting elementary school during school hours to talk to educate students about the importance of caring for the environment.

This program is being hosted by one of our fantastic partner organizations. These students will form a close relationships with many community leaders that could lead to wonderful opportunities in the future. Great resumé material as well.
