Keeping our brothers and sisters with Spotsylvania Career Firefighters IAFF Local 3886 in our thoughts as they mourn the loss of one of their own.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Firefighter Mason Fercovic-Ortegel, who tragically died in an off-duty drowning incident at Lake Anna. Mason was only 24 years old.

This is a heartbreaking loss for Mason’s family, friends, coworkers, and our entire FREM family. We ask that you keep his family and everyone who knew and loved Mason in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Our department will stand beside Mason’s family and our members in the days ahead. We will do everything we can to support them, care for one another, and honor Mason and his service to our community.

Please continue to lift up Mason’s family, friends, and fellow department members.

Rest easy, Mason. You will not be forgotten.

Units from Spotsylvania and Caroline are currently operating onscene of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Snead's Farm on Tidewater Trail. The roadway is closed in both directions.

Avoid the area.

That haze you see. That smoke you smell.
Here it is. The smoke from massive Canadian wildfires has made it's way to our region. We are currently at "purple" for air quality which means being outside is not good for anyone currently.

Tidewater Trail, from Pepmeier Hill Rd to Belvedere Farm (in Spotsylvania), will be shut down until further due to lines and downed trees.
Detour signs are posted. Use caution in the area.

*Update*

Spotsylvania Rescue Engine 8 arrived onscene to find a working fire in a single story residence. Crews from RE8, Spotsylvania E11, E1, E2, K1, K6,M2 operated onscene for approximately 5 hours.

There were no injuries. The residents were being assisted by Red Cross.

Update: Roadway has been reopened

Crews are currently operating at a residential structure fire in the area of Claiborne Crossing Rd. and Macedonia Rd.

The roadway is temporarily closed to allow firefighters to work safely. Please avoid the area if possible and use an alternate route. If you must travel nearby, use caution and be aware of emergency vehicles and personnel working in the roadway.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while crews remain on scene.

At approximately 10:30 last night units from Companies 1, 10, 5, and 2 were notified for a residential fire on Tinder Drive (1s due). Medic 1 and E1 arrived to find a residential structure with nothing evident from the exterior. Personnel were notified by the residents that the house was filled with smoke, no active fire was evident, and several animals were inside. Crews from E1 and M1 made entry finding the residence was charged with smoke but no fire was evident. As crews continued to investigate additional personnel, and neighbors, tended to 2 dogs found unresponsive by the resident. The fire appears to have been contained to the basement by a closed door at the top of the staircase.

One patient was transported from the scene. 2 dogs and a kitten were revived onscene and transported to the emergency vet by their owner. Unfortunately one dog and two additional cats were deceased. The Red Cross was contacted for the occupants.

We don't need to tell you it's extremely warm and humid outside today. What we do need to tell you is to keep hydrated. Drink water. Drink electrolytes. Wear light clothing if possible. Avoiding extended exposure outside.

Also, there is a potential for severe weather this afternoon into evening. Keep up to the minute with whatever weather outlet you prefer.
