A little celebration for a big commitment! 💚

Thank you to SUSTAIN. volunteers - Bobby S Jabat, Ashlyn Nichol, Rhonda Keith for City Council, & Doug Mabry - for joining me this morning to celebrate the installation of our new Adopt-A-Road sign 🚯 on Watts Road, to Keep Carroll Beautiful 🌼 for their support throughout this process and helping make this milestone possible, and to Bowdon Main Street 📸 for being there to help capture the occasion!

We’re proud to care for this mile of our community and grateful to everyone helping us along the way! 🙏❤️

🍃 Sneak Peek Sunday | Final Post 🍃

We’re just over two weeks away from our official opening, which means it’s time for one final Sneak Peek Sunday! 💚 It is my hope that in September, I’ll have the opportunity to meet many of you as you come to visit, tour, explore, and enjoy all that has been built and prepared at the Reserve.

For our final sneak peek, we’re stepping back to look at the Education Center as a whole. When this property was acquired, the building was in dire condition - broken windows with holes, a failing roof, unusable doors, faded and deteriorated finishes, and years of neglect. While we’ve highlighted some of its individual improvements over the past several weeks, today we get to see the bigger picture: a refreshed Education Center with a new roof, new windows and doors, new exterior lighting, fresh paint, and spaces being prepared to welcome visitors. 🏡🌿

There is still more to come inside, but what was once a dilapidated and unusable building is becoming a place for learning, gathering, observing, and connecting with the natural world around us. I can’t think of a better place to end our Sneak Peek Sunday series - or a better way to say: we’re almost ready to welcome you! 💚

🍃 Thankful Thursday | Post #8 🍃

This week’s Thankful Thursday recognizes Barbara McCormick! 💚

Barbara generously donated dozens of bags of mulch for our Adopt-a-Pollinator Plot project at the Reserve. 🌱🦋 With more than half of our stepping-stone pathways now surrounded by mulch, her contribution helped us make tremendous progress toward getting this special space ready for our adopters, future visitors - and, of course, the pollinators!

Barbara, thank you for your generosity and for helping us move this project another BIG step forward. We are so grateful for your support! 💚🌼

We were grateful to welcome Whitetails Unlimited Official to the Reserve on Monday, for a quick tour and a chance to share more about the work happening here!

Representatives from the local Carroll County Chapter, along with Field Director Stephen Price with Whitetails Unlimited - Georgia, also presented SUSTAIN.peopleplanetprosper with a generous donation in support of our work. 💚

Thank you, Whitetails Unlimited, for visiting, learning more about our mission, and investing in what we’re building for our community! 🦌🌿 We look forward to a continued partnership!

We’re incredibly grateful to the Georgia Native Plant Society - West Georgia Chapter, Georgia Forestry Commission, and our new SUSTAIN.peopleplanetprosper volunteers for lending their time, knowledge, energy and support to this work during the morning of Thursday, August 13th! Having experts, community partners and volunteers who believe in what we’re building makes all the difference.

🍃 Sneak Peek Sunday | Post #7 🍃

What’s better than a warm, inviting entrance? This week’s sneak peek takes us right to the front door of the Education Center!🚪🌿

The former entrance featured an aging commercial door that had seen better days - with large gaps, a missing handle, and an overall worn appearance. Today, beautiful new double doors and a transom window create a welcoming entrance while allowing natural light into the building. The difference between these before-and-after photos speaks for itself!

As we prepare to welcome visitors, students, families, and community groups, we love that the entrance now reflects what awaits on the other side - a comfortable, welcoming space and a gateway to exploring the Reserve.💚
