We could use a few helping hands as we prepare for an upcoming student field trip and begin winding down for seasonal changes.

🦋 Meet La Monarca del Recuerdo (The Monarch of Remembrance), Espoke Reserve’s entry in this year’s Bowdon Scarecrow Stroll!

For our scarecrow, SUSTAIN. wanted to create something that reflects two sides of our work at Espoke Reserve - our environmental focus and our commitment to cultural learning and understanding.

La Monarca del Recuerdo celebrates the beauty, remembrance, and connection to nature found within Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) traditions. Dressed in colorful Día de los Mu***os-inspired attire, she wears the wings of a monarch butterfly - a meaningful symbol tied to the season.

Each fall, millions of monarchs migrate to central Mexico, arriving around the time of Día de los Mu***os. In some Indigenous traditions of the region, monarchs are believed to carry or represent the spirits of loved ones returning to visit the living. Her wings honor that beautiful connection between nature, memory, migration, and those who came before us.

We were thrilled to welcome the United Women in Faith of New Hope United Methodist Church-Bowdon to Espoke Reserve today for their monthly meeting.💛
It was a beautiful morning filled with faith, friendship, a lovely breeze, and the peaceful prairie as the perfect backdrop.🌾
