Join us for Bowdon by Design: An Achitectural Walking Tour! 🏛️🏠🏢
SUSTAIN. is excited to once again partner with the Bowdon Area Historical Society for this guided walking tour through downtown Bowdon as we explore historic buildings, architectural details, storefronts, steeples, and the stories that helped shape this community.

Participants will also receive a fun “Spot the Detail” card to use as a mini scavenger hunt along the route before returning to the museum for lemonade 🍋 and “brick” brownies 😋 to wrap up the afternoon!

What an incredible honor to meet Daniel Katz, Co-Founder and Board Chair of the 🐸 Rainforest Alliance, at the International Academic Competitions Nationals in Orlando, Florida 🌴 today! It was truly a privilege to connect with someone whose passion and leadership have inspired so many in the sustainability world. Moments like these are a wonderful reminder of why this work matters and the impact a person can have. 🌿🌎💚

Congratulations to Sarah Maloy on receiving the Pathfinder Award! We are so thankful for the vital role she has played in our children’s education. Sarah organized field trips for our QUEST students to learn about the rich heritage of our city, Bowdon. She also generously volunteered her time for an entire week to teach students about Earth Day and spent two days helping with our Garden Club!

A huge ✨thank you✨ to the Georgia Native Plant Society - West Georgia Chapter for visiting our future Park, Preserve, and Education Center on Thursday - for our very first BioBlitz! It was hugely successful with 50+ NATIVE species found on-site! 🌱🌳🌾

This morning, SUSTAIN. had the opportunity to host a career shadowing experience with a 5th grade student from Bowdon Elementary School! He did an amazing job 🤩 throughout the morning and brought so much knowledge, curiosity, and insight to every conversation and activity.🌟
Together, we explored conservation, stewardship, and land management by discussing what should - and shouldn’t - be removed from the land, why native ecosystems matter, and how invasive species can impact the environment around us. 🌎 We spent the morning working on invasive plant 🌱 removal, creek 💦 cleanup, and lastly planting a tree 🌳 while discussing the importance of investing in tree canopy on properties like the one we were working on. We also made observations about the things that should remain in natural spaces and why - including dead trees 🪾 and fallen limbs that continue to serve important purposes within an ecosystem.
Hands-on experiences like these help connect students to the environment around them while encouraging curiosity, stewardship, and sustainability for the future. 💡🌏♻️
We are incredibly thankful 🙏 for his help and enthusiasm throughout the morning, and we appreciate Bowdon Elementary School for the opportunity to share this experience and introduce students to the importance of caring for the environment around them. ❤️

We had such a great time this ☀️ morning, hosting the “Voices of the Land” field trip, with a great group of Bowdon Middle School 8th graders, the Bowdon Area Historical Society, University of West Georgia Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Center for Public Archaeology, and many amazing Community Volunteers ❤️ that led several Stations reflective of local history! We focused on Academic, Military, Native American, and Black History right here in Bowdon! We can’t wait to see the unique perspective of student writings as they are submitted by Monday for a chance to win a 💰 $50 gift card, certificate, award ceremony recognition, and an invitation to return to the BAHS in July to share their piece of writing! 📝 This contest asked Students to reflect on “how to honor local history respectfully”. 🏅Good luck Students! 🍀

📣 We’re bringing history to life again next week!

SUSTAIN., in partnership with the Bowdon Area Historical Society and University of West Georgia, Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Center for Public Archaeology, is looking forward to hosting Bowdon Middle School 8th graders during our first annual “Voices of the Land” immersive field trip experience!

✨ What makes it special?
Students will step into the stories that shaped our community - exploring academic roots, Black history, military service, and Native heritage through hands-on stations, storytelling, and real voices from the past.
🖊️ A student writing contest encourages reflection on honoring a community’s history respectfully.

We’re honored to help the next generation see that history 🗝️ isn’t just something you read about - it’s something you experience!

Rain all day ☔️ didn’t stop us! We were honored to host visitors from The Muscogee Nation, the College of The Muscogee Nation, and the University of West Georgia at our property in Bowdon on Tuesday afternoon. Right on cue, the weather gave us a break to tour the future park, preserve, and education center. The momentum is building, and we’re also excited to announce that we continue to collaborate with the Muscogee Nation and their Cultural Department to honor the history of this land as we develop the official park name and trail designations in the Mvskoke language.
