Congratulations to Liam on his first turkey! He must have a real cool mom and dad, to let him skip school to hunt with his grandpa! Best part is, we received this picture at 645am this morning, which means he made it to school!!! That’s what it’s all about!! Congrats Liam!

What are great thing for 2025 and years to come!

Attention turkey hunters! A new state law that goes into effect Jan. 1 will allow .410 as the minimum allowable shotgun gauge/bore for turkey hunting in Illinois.

For the upcoming fall shotgun turkey season, hunters must continue to comply with the existing 20 gauge minimum through the end of the year.

Shotguns are the only legal firearm for turkey hunting in Illinois. The maximum allowable gauge remains 10 gauge, and the largest allowable shot size remains No. 4 shot.

With modern advancements in shot materials and technology, .410 and 28 gauge shotgun/shell combinations allow for the harvest of wild turkeys at reasonable distances with the benefit of reduced recoil. Legalization of these options will increase accessibility to turkey hunting for youth and those who cannot withstand the recoil impulse of larger shotgun gauges.

What a GREAT Day at the local Pheasants Forever Chapters “No Child Left Indoors.” It was great to see all the youth come out and learn about the many opportunities there are to enjoy the outdoors! We appreciate Joe for running the NWTF booth, talking about turkey habitat and hunting tactics. Every kid had a chance to shoot at a turkey target and needless to say, there was a dent put in the population today! Great Event Pheasants Forever, well done.
