Introducing another guest artist for this weekend’s performances of Bach and Beyond, theorbist Joseph Gailey!
Joe’s musical journey began in unexpected places. Initially drawn to rock ’n’ roll as a young guitarist, his path took a decisive turn at fifteen when he discovered classical guitar. That year, he began his professional studies with Joseph Pecoraro at the North Carolina School of the Arts and later pursued a degree in music performance at Appalachian State University and The University of Texas at Austin under Adam Holzman making him a second generation student of Andres Segovia.
At Appalachian State, Joe was first introduced to the theorbo, an encounter that led to his participation in the Collegium Musicum ensemble in Boone, NC, where he performed works by Baroque composers such as Telemann, Lully, and Bach. Self-taught on theorbo, lute, and Baroque guitar, he approaches performance with a deep interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on historical studies in literature, philosophy, and the cultural forces that shaped the music of past centuries.
Joe will be especially busy because he’ll also be singing with Seicento and Seicento Sirene for these performances. Bravo!
