Starting Point: Carcass Creek
Destination: Torrey

We are blessed with gentle, nourishing rain as we head into Torrey.
Community members from Boulder, Torrey, Teasdale and Bicknell meet us to walk the last mile and ioin us at Shooke Coffeehouse.
May the benefits of our Vigil Walk on Behalf of Cougar Kin ripple out in all directions. May we be good medicine for our people, Earth and All Beings. May the collective wake up from the trance of separation and remember all Life is Sacred and Water is Life.

May it be so.

Thank you to Paul Garvey for writing the Salt Lake Tribune article about our vigil walk

Starting Point: Pleasant Creek Campground
Destination: Carcass Creek

We continue our walk reflecting on the policies of eradication within the DNR, a government agency that views nature as resource, not kin.
Whose primary interest is making money off hunting and fishing.
We walk with heavy hearts and a prayer that walking in Silence, Love and Beauty has the power to awaken people from the trance of separation to remember:
Water is Life and that the animals, and All Beings are our relatives.

The intentions of this walk were rooted in mourning, bearing witness to the lives of cougars lost
to eradication policies; Put in place by state agencies who are out of touch with the values of our local areas and ecosystems. This is what made the group’s arrival in Pleasant Creek on August 12th seem devastatingly kismet.
Work trucks with “DNR” marked on the side sat parked at one of the campsites. Young men in khakis & greens weren’t far away. The creek water ran hot pink.
The DNR had efficiently and quietly performed a mass poisoning of Pleasant Creek with Rotenone, and the pink water was an effect of the neutralizing chemical Potassium Permanganate.
The folks walking to honor the lives of Mountain Lions killed by state policies have wandered into a creek full of dead fish and water filled with chemicals.

To understand more about Boulder Town’s longstanding opposition to the use of Rotenone in our waterways, read the 2019 Insider article via the link in our bio.

Vigil walk on behalf of Our Cougar Kin
Day 1
Starting Point:
Boulder Town Park
Destination: Chriss Lake Trail Head

“There is deep devotion in a slow lengthy walk. There is space for silence, reflection, and persistence.

As we walked for the mountain lions, from desert to mountain and to desert again, we tied our steps along the highway to their impacted livea.

We walked mourning the genocide of the mountain lions, we walked bearing their grief. We walked knowing they will walk free once again.”
- Eric Sheffield

The vigil walk is less than a week away…

Our intention is to walk in mourning of the genocide of our cougar kin…peacefully bearing witness to this atrocity that is occuring in the Boulder District and throughout Utah. We are walking with a prayer for a more beautiful world we know is possible, envisioning a future where cougars flourish and thrive in the wildlands that have been their home for millions of years.

Please reach out to [email protected] if you would like to walk or are able to provide support

The problem with traps…

Sure there may be some “restrictions” for trapping but do they actually work? What does it mean that the DWR is trusting inexperienced hunters with this responsibility?
