Construction of the range at its current location on Nebish Road in Boulder Junctions began in 1975, and was complete enough to start shooting in August, 1976. The State of Wisconsin, Department of Natural Resources, owns the land (about 56 acres. Articles of Incorporation – Nonstock Corporation were approved on November 22, 2010, by the State of Wisconsin, under the name of Boulder Junction Shooting Range, Inc. A Federal Employer Identification Number was issued on December 10, 2010. IRS granted the 501(c) (3) status as a charitable organization on January 26, with an effective date of November 29, 2011. The state passed the bill allowing the range to enter a thirty-year lease. The range then negotiated a 30-year lease directly with the DNR commencing on January 1, 2016 and ending December 31, 2046, with an option for a 30-year renewal upon mutual approval of the DNR and range.

Despite relentless rain throughout the day, the Boulder Junction Shooting Range’s 100-bird shoot on August 16 was a heartfelt success. Community members showed up with unwavering support and compassion, raising funds to aid the sole surviving member of the Birchell family after the devastating fire. The downpour may have soaked the grounds, but it couldn’t dampen the generosity or solidarity of those who came together for this cause.

The FIRST PLACE WINNER of the 100-bird trap shoot: Gregg Mallick
The SECOND PLACE WINNER was a tie between Jake Smith and Lyndon Schroeder

Just a few weeks ago, tragedy struck the Birchell family when lightning hit their home on Pike Lake, igniting a fire that completely destroyed it. In that devastating moment, Tom Birchell lost his beloved wife Carol, his daughter Stephanie, and their two cherished dogs. Tom himself suffered severe burns over nearly half of his body and, heartbreakingly, later succumbed to his injuries.

Tom was a familiar and friendly face in our shooting community—he participated in the Tuesday night league this summer and had been a dedicated member of the Monday night traveling league for many years. Stephanie also shared in that passion, having spent time shooting at the club alongside her dad.

Now, Tom’s surviving daughter is left to navigate unimaginable grief while facing overwhelming medical and funeral expenses for her father, mother, and sister. Any support during this time would mean the world to her.

PLEASE JOIN US TODAY: The Boulder Junction Shooting Range is holding a 100-bird shoot on Saturday, August 16 to raise money to help with these expenses. Various prizes were donated including:

1) A guided pheasant hunt with Wayne Staszak

2) A guided half-day fishing trip with Gregg Mallick

3) A case of shells and 2 rounds of Sporting Clays at the Harshaw Gun Club.

Many area businesses also donated prizes and food for the event.

Thanks to Jeff Heeler, we now have a little more warmth at the Rifle Range. Plastic Sheeting around the Platform added just enough to keep the wind out and heat in. :-)
Keep working Jeff, you will then need to take it down soon:-)
