Kayla has been hospitalized many times throughout her life and has rigorous daily routin

e of treatments and medications to keep her lungs functioning. The hospitalizations have become more and more frequent and her medication and treatment routines have increased. Recently Kayla has learned that her degenerative disease has progressed to a stage that she is in need of a double lung transplant to save her life. She is currently awaiting her new lungs and looking forward to many activities her current lungs don't allow her to do. With her new lungs she plans on taking some deep breaths, play softball, snowboard and ski and even run again. The cost for a double lung transplant is overwhelming: between $600,000 and $1,000,000. While Kayla's insurance will cover some of the cost of her transplant, we expect the out-of-pocket costs to Kayla's family to be between $60,000 and $100,000. COTA has established a personal account for funds raised in honor of Kayla. 100% of the funds raised for Kayla will go toward her transplant related expenses. The Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a not for profit national charity dedicated to helping families with their transplant-related expenses and organizing communities to raise funds for COTA.

Kayla Healy, 23, born June 8, 1993, in Paradise, CA passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from complications as a result of Cystic Fibrosis and a double lung transplant performed on July 03, 2012.

Kayla was a cosmetologist and a nanny, and so much more. It is impossible to capture in words all that Kayla was. She was the best daughter, sister, family member, and friend that we could have ever asked for. Kayla was such a bright girl, had lots of spirit, was strong-willed, and was unshakable. She loved so deeply. Even when she was sick herself she would reach out and be a source of support and strength to others. The moment you met Kayla you realized what a special gift she was. She had a way of touching your heart immediately when you met her. (Sometimes while being a complete smart ass). She lived life to its fullest and treasured every breath. She put up one hell of a fight. We would all be lucky to have just one small amount of the strength and grit that Kayla showed us was possible. She will never stop being an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. We will truly miss her.

It is so hard to write this post. We wanted you all to know that three weeks ago, Kayla Healy was admitted to the hospital. We found out that Kayla was experiencing a rare form of rejection. We all just figured that in usual Kayla fashion she'd be in for a while, take a few drugs, and be out and back at life. The treatment was taxing and her lungs did not recover. Kayla passed away on Sunday night. We are all devastated. Our hearts are broken. ( )

Thanks to everyone who has posted positive thoughts for Kayla today! We are keeping positive and really hope that things move faster now. LUNGS COME SOON! Lets make sure Kayla doesn't get board in the hospital while she is waiting alone at Stanford (mom has to work in WA during the week)...send her some love!

Kayla Nicole Healy was admitted to the hospital last Thursday. She was air lifted to Stanford Hospital on Saturday night to await her new lungs where we believe she has the best chance of getting them. She is away from friends and family down there but is super strong and determined! We will keep you posted on her status.
