Register NOW: De-escalation Training!
In an increasingly polarized world, how do we respond to anger, threats, disruption, or distress with grace, compassion, and practical skills?
Join us for an afternoon of hands-on learning grounded in our Unitarian Universalist values. We’ll explore how to:
• De-escalate tense or potentially volatile situations
• Respond when worship or community spaces are disrupted
• Stay safer while participating in social justice actions
• Better understand our own bodies and nervous systems during tense encounters
• Support people experiencing agitation or distress
Our goal is to build communities where safety and compassion go hand in hand, while reducing the likelihood of violence and decentering police intervention.
📅 Sunday, August 30
🕐 1:30–4:30 PM ET
📍 First Parish Cambridge, 3 Church St
💜 $40/person, sliding scale $0–$100
Come skill up with us and help build a safer, more compassionate world.

LAST CALL FOR THE SUMMER BOOK DRIVE!
Support the Prison Book Program

This Wednesday is the LAST Wednesday to bring book donations to Sanctuary Boston’s Summer Book Drive supporting the Prison Book Program.

The Prison Book Program sends free books and reading materials to people in prison based on their specific needs and interests. Your donation can help put a book into the hands of someone who is looking to learn, explore, imagine, and connect. 💛

📖 What you can donate:
• New or gently used paperback books (no water damage)
• Fiction & nonfiction
• Blank journals (no spiral binding)

📍 Bring your donations this Wednesday to in-person worship:
First Church
64 Marlborough St.

🌎 Connecting from afar? Check out the Prison Book Program website to send books or dollars their way.

Help us make this final collection day count! 📚💛

Come spend a joyful, relaxed afternoon singing around the firepit! Singing the Seasons is informal, spiritually grounded, and justice-centered—with plenty of room to connect, laugh, and make music together.

No musical experience or sheet music needed! We’ll learn songs through call and response, teach one another, and experiment with harmonies in a supportive, welcoming environment. We’ll have song lists and folks ready to teach.

🍋 Robust snacks & cold lemonade
🔥 S’mores supplies
🍺 NA beer
🍽️ Campfire dinner at 5 PM

Getting here: Street parking is available. Taking public transit? The house is .8 miles from 59 bus or we can pick you up at the Eliot Stop on the D line.

Accessibility: The backyard firepit is on grass. There are four steps up to the house to access the restroom.

Come for the singing, stay for the s’mores—and leave with a few new songs in your heart. 💛

In-person worship is outdoors in the Back Bay tomorrow. Don't forget to bring your books for our Summer Book Drive to support the Prison Book Program!

The Prison Book Program is a volunteer-driven organization that supports people in prison by sending them free books and reading materials that meet their specific needs and interests. Incarcerated people mail requests for books and other educational materials, and PBP prepares packages for them that best match their requests.

Last night in their message, Li Kynvi reflected on being open to the unexpected and holding our plans lightly. They offered these prompts for our reflection on times of 'unintentional becoming.' How would you complete these sentences?
