“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
One of the most comforting truths in Scripture is that God does not pull away from us when we are hurting. In fact, Psalm 34:18 tells us the exact opposite: “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” When our hearts are heavy, when disappointment lingers, when grief feels overwhelming, and when life doesn’t make sense, God draws near.
I love that this verse doesn’t say the Lord is only near to those who have it all together. It doesn’t say He is closest to those who are strong, confident, or unshaken. It says He is near to the brokenhearted. That means our pain does not disqualify us from His presence. Our tears do not push Him away. Our struggles do not make Him love us any less.
If your heart is hurting today, remember that God is not standing at a distance waiting for you to heal before coming to Him. He is already there. He sees every burden you carry, every prayer you have whispered, and every tear that has fallen. He understands the pain that others may never fully see, and He cares deeply about every part of your story.
Healing often takes longer than we hope. Sometimes we want God to remove the pain immediately, but instead He walks with us through it. While the circumstances may not change overnight, His faithfulness remains constant. Every step of the journey is covered by His grace, and every moment is held in His hands.
The beautiful promise of Scripture is not that we will never experience heartbreak, but that we will never face it alone. God stays present in the waiting, in the questions, and in the process of healing. He gently restores what has been wounded and strengthens what feels weak.
Whatever you are carrying today, bring it to Him. Let His presence be your comfort and His promises be your hope. The same God who sees your broken heart is the God who holds it with perfect love and tender care.
Thank you Jesus 🙌🏻
