**Turn Off Outdoor Lights...2 Big Nights For Migratory Birds**
It is hard to believe, but many migratory birds are taking advantage of the northerly winds following the passage of the cold front late last night. As a result, 5 to 10 million birds (or more) are expected to fly over Ohio Sunday and Monday nights combined. More than 200 million birds are forecast to fly over the US each night. This is an early surge of birds migrating south, though it is not unheard of either to have a night like this in late August on occasion. The peak fall migration in our area occurs in mid-September, but it doesn't end until late October or early November, depending on the species. Some warblers are expected to fly over, along with plovers, sandpipers, and a variety of other birds. Turning off outdoor lights and reducing light pollution helps migratory birds stay on course.
