Today, Chimney Rock State Park reopened its gates, not just as a destination, but as a symbol of resilience.

Early this morning, as the sun rose over the cliffs, the American flag was raised once again above Chimney Rock. It fluttered in the breeze, quiet, steady, and proud. A small moment, but a powerful one. After months of silence, it signaled something we’ve all been waiting for: the return of a beloved place.

Last fall, Hurricane Helene tore through these mountains, leaving behind downed trees, washed-out trails, and damage that kept visitors away.

But North Carolinians don’t give up on the places they love.

Through months of cleanup and careful restoration, our staff, partners, and volunteers worked tirelessly to bring Chimney Rock back to life. And today, it stands ready to welcome you home.

Come walk the trails. Hear the roar of Hickory Nut Falls. Take in that breathtaking view. And let this place remind you: even after the storm, hope rises.

Ah, camping. It can be in-tents! ⛺️

Sometimes spending a day in the wilderness isn’t quite enough to truly capture the feeling of a special place. Sometimes it is. (You know who you are.) But if you feel inclined, fall is a great time to go camping. Not too hot, not too cold - it’s perfect season for getting active outdoors. Other benefits include smaller crowds and fewer bugs. Cooler temperatures tend to chase the usual overflow of bugs to a warmer climate. Or into your tent. Either way….well, there’s really no point to make there. You’ll be fine. Get outdoors and have fun.
