They knew what would happen if the tomb was found empty.

They knew that what came next would be harder to stop than what came before.

So they rolled a giant stone over the entrance. A stone no man could move.

Then they guarded the tomb with Roman soldiers. Failure meant death.

They failed.

Jesus rose.

And the tomb is empty.

It turned out that the Jewish leaders were right…

What came next was impossible to stop.

Jesus’ disciples went out to the ends of the earth and to this day we still know that He is Risen.

Justin doesn’t know I am posting this, but I feel like it is something that I need to share and maybe it will inspire you to let someone in your life know what they have meant to you. I hope you all enjoy a little glimpse into our lives.

I have spent my life trying to be as good of a brother as Justin has been to me. We’ve fought, we’ve laughed till we cried, we’ve hunted all over the world, we’ve competed against one another, and we’ve carried each other in more ways than one. When I was on death’s doorstep, he was there. When I hated myself, he loved me. I could live 100 lives and not be half the man he is.

He unashamedly laid down his life for Jesus and when I was at my lowest, he showed me that God had a better life waiting ahead for me. I’ve watched him give up everything. I’ve watched him hold onto Jesus in the trials. And I’ve watched him spend the last decade pointing others towards Jesus.

I’ve seen so much of the world because of him and I can honestly say that I would not be here today without him. So without rambling on too much longer, I just wanted to say thank you G and here is to many more adventures.

Love,

Your Brother

The Gains of Greed:

So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its owners. Proverbs 1:19 NKJV

Greed = intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food.

Intensity is a great attribute when applied to the right pursuit and cause. However, when we become intense about fulfilling selfish desires it can turn into a destructive endeavor. The book of Proverbs is what we consider wisdom literature. If we want to make decisions that ultimately benefit us then consulting this book will have some nuggets to nudge you in the right direction.

There have been times in my life when I put hunting above absolutely everything and everyone. I would pursue it at all costs. There is a great line in the show 1883, the main character Elsa, talking about how much she loved the land came to the conclusion that “no matter how much you love it, it will never love you back.” This is an important lesson for all of us to truly understand. No matter how much you love (fill in the blank) It will never love you back. Power will never love you back, money will never love you back, hunting will never love you back. Proverbs informs us that selfish desire for something will ultimately do nothing but rob you of your life.

Here’s my challenge for you today: Take a few minutes and think, is there something in your life that you love at an unhealthy level? That can be different for each of us, but you know deep down if you are overboard and I believe the Holy Spirit is showing you something as you read this. Maybe hunting is damaging your family because you are always absent. Maybe you are consumed by alcohol or drugs. Maybe you are destroying yourself with po*******hy. Maybe you are destroying yourself with the pursuit of a career and power at all costs. You have a choice. Will you continue on the way you are going or will you repent. I want to challenge you to start investing your life in things that can love you back. Things that give life not take it away. Remember: No matter how much you love a thing, it can never love you back.

The last 100 yards:

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10 NLT

Deep in the thick bush of Zimbabwe on a 100 degree day I wounded a Cape Buffalo in a botched frontal shot through dense cover. We slowly dry tracked him for hours and miles as he made his attempt to escape. The trail grew fainter and fainter as blood stopped and his track began to fade into all the other tracks around.

I have been in this situation many times hunting over the years. Excitement and hope fading, the sinking feeling of imminent failure creeping in. I sat down, dehydrated and discouraged. I knew we had lost the buff. The trackers, I knew, knew he was gone but were just putting on a show of hope. I leaned over and told my friend, Ben, “it’s over, he’s gone.” As the words were still settling and resignation was taking hold, chaos erupted 100 yards from us as the lead tracker, Boanie, stumbled right into the wounded bull and the PH’s gun thundered. People were running as the bull charged around and we leapt to our feet and ran into the melee. A handful of rounds and a ton of adrenaline later the bull had expired.

As the dust settled, the only thing on my mind was that I had given up only 100 yards from what I was chasing. Had it been my call it would have been over. I then asked the question of Ben that I will ask of you, “How many times in life have we given up in the last 100 yards?”

I want you to notice 1 word in this passage. “IF”. The next time you get tired or someone around you gets tired of doing the right thing because it feels hopeless just say to yourself or them. “IF”

Here’s my challenge for you today: When we give up we know what the outcome will be. But what IF we don’t. Paul says IF we don’t give up, at just the right time we will see success and harvest a blessing. You don’t know how far you are from a breakthrough and IF you give up you will never know. You may only be 100 yards, 100 days, 100 minutes, 100 seconds, 100 steps from success. Don’t give up. Don’t grow weary. Don’t focus on what’s out of your favor or all the ways it won’t work out. Keep doing what’s right. Keep being a blessing. Keep the faith. Keep going the last 100 yards today.
