Our cadets recently completed the Bataan Memorial Death March, taking on a challenging 14-mile hike in honor of the service members who endured the Bataan Death March.

This event was not only a test of physical endurance, but also a chance to reflect on history, sacrifice, and resilience.

We are proud of our cadets for pushing themselves and representing our program with dedication and respect.

Last Thursday was an outstanding day for our cadets!

They traveled to Fort Leonard Wood where they toured the John B. Mahaffey Museum Complex, experienced a hands-on heavy equipment simulator, and got an up-close look at UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

This trip was a great experience all around!

We recently traveled to Nevada MO to compete in a drill competition with 12 other JROTC units. The drill team just came up short to bring home a trophy. I am very proud of all the cadets especially the talented drill team leaders as they overcame some significant drill sequence complications!

Happy New Year to all! Below is the first public message from the new AFJROTC Director, Colonel Tipton.

Published Dec. 10, 2024

Welcome to Air Force Junior ROTC

Colonel Matthew E. Tipton
Director, Air Force Junior ROTC

Welcome to Air Force Junior ROTC. The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is "Developing citizens of character." Air Force Junior ROTC is not a military accessions program and cadets are never under any obligation to join the military. Air Force Junior ROTC is a Title 10 U.S. Code mandated citizenship training program that is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. The program achieves this through classroom education in air and space fundamentals and hands on learning opportunities in a number of fun and challenging co-curricular activities.

The Air Force Junior ROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of “integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”

The program is mandated to sustain 870 Air Force Junior ROTC units in high schools worldwide. There are approximately 85,000 high school cadets in the program and nearly 1,600 retired USAF instructors who lead, mentor, guide, and teach our cadets in high schools in the U.S. and around the world. Air Force Junior ROTC enjoys overwhelming school administration and community support because of the huge positive impact on cadets, schools, communities, and our nation. In many communities that have no military bases within many miles, the cadets and instructors of Air Force Junior ROTC are truly “The face of the U.S. Air Force in communities all over the U.S. and the world.”

All,
This is an interesting event that occurred in December during the Korean War.

The Korean War, often called the "Forgotten War," holds this title due to its placement in history between World War II and the Vietnam War—two conflicts that significantly shaped global politics and left deep marks on American society and culture.

After World War II ended, Korea faced a major shift. The Korean Peninsula was divided along the 38th parallel, a decision agreed upon by the United States and the Soviet Union as part of the post-war settlement. This division was initially intended to be temporary, with plans to reunify Korea under a single government. However, escalating Cold War tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union made reconciliation nearly impossible.

The Korean War officially began on June 25, 1950, when North Korean forces, armed with Soviet-provided tanks and weapons, crossed the 38th parallel, invading South Korea. The conflict quickly escalated into a brutal war that drew in numerous nations on both sides.

One significant event during the war was the Hungnam Evacuation, which took place from December 15 to December 24, 1950. This large-scale operation successfully evacuated about 105,000 U.S. X Corps soldiers and members of the South Korean 3rd Division, along with vast quantities of military equipment, including tanks, trucks, and artillery. What made this evacuation particularly extraordinary was its humanitarian focus. Approximately 98,000 Korean civilians fleeing the advance of Chinese and North Korean forces were also rescued, highlighting the operation's unique and compassionate approach to the horrors of war.

Greetings and Happy Holidays!

During this time in WWII a major turning point was taking place. The Battle of the Bulge, fought from December 16, 1944, to January 16, 1945, was the final major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II. This effort aimed to drive the Allies away from German territory but ultimately failed. The name "Battle of the Bulge" originates from Winston Churchill’s earlier, optimistic characterization in May 1940 of what he believed was strong resistance to a German advance in the same region—though, in reality, the Germans had been highly successful. The term "bulge" describes the protrusion created by the German forces as they pushed into the Allied lines.

Key Commanders and Leaders of the Battle of the Bulge
Allied Commanders:
Dwight D. Eisenhower: Supreme Allied Commander
Omar Bradley: Commander of the 12th Army Group
Bernard Montgomery: Commander of the 21st Army Group
Courtney Hodges: Commander of the First Army
George S. Patton: Commander of the Third Army
German Commanders:
Adolf Hi**er: FĂŒhrer and Reich Chancellor
Gerd von Rundstedt: Commander of OB West
Walter Model: Commander of Army Group B
Hasso von Manteuffel: Commander of the 5th Panzer Army
Sepp Dietrich: Commander of the 6th Panzer Army

These leaders were central to the strategic decisions and ex*****on of operations during the Battle of the Bulge. Despite the initial success of the German offensive, the Allies ultimately achieved victory, marking a turning point in the conflict.

Battle of the Bulge (December 16, 1944–January 16, 1945), the last major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II. The ‘bulge’ refers to the wedge that the Germans drove into the Allied lines during their ultimately unsuccessful attempt to push the Allies back from German home...
