Today, Deaf community and the entertainment world lost a bright light far too soon.
Kaylee Hottle, best known for her unforgettable role as Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, has passed away at just 18 years old following a tragic car accident.
Kaylee was more than an actress. She was a powerful symbol of Deaf representation. Through her talent, authenticity, and the beauty of American Sign Language on the big screen, she inspired countless Deaf children to believe that they, too, belonged in Hollywood and that their stories deserved to be seen.
At only 18, her journey had only just begun. Yet the impact she made will live on for generations. She showed the world that being Deaf is not a limitation. It is a strength, an identity, and a voice that deserves to be celebrated.
Our hearts are with her family, friends, castmates, and everyone whose lives she touched. May they find comfort in knowing that Kaylee’s legacy will continue to inspire the next generation of Deaf storytellers, actors, and dreamers.
In her honor, Austin Deaf Club will observe a moment of silence during our upcoming General Meeting as we come together to remember her life, celebrate her contributions, and recognize the lasting impact she made on the Deaf community.
Rest in peace, Kaylee Hottle.
Thank you for showing the world the beauty of Deaf culture and for reminding us that representation truly matters. You will never be forgotten.
