know there are 44 counties in Idaho? 👀

We may seem small, but every corner of this state has its own story, its own people, and its own way of doing things. From the Panhandle down to the Owyhees, from the Magic Valley over to the Teton Valley, it all adds up to something you can't find anywhere else.

That's why, as Idaho keeps growing, it matters to hold onto the values that make Idaho, Idaho. Neighbors who show up. Small businesses that feel like family. Places that are worth protecting.
So we're appreciating all 44 counties!

When you think of Idaho, you probably think of a state rich in community. We certainly do.

Third spaces are a huge part of what makes a community actually feel like a community. Those third spaces might be your neighborhood block parties, the dive bar at the end of your street where you've become a regular, or the park where you and your neighbors always walk your dogs.

As Idaho's population keeps growing, we run the risk of losing these shared spaces. And when that happens, the place you live stops feeling like a community and starts feeling like just a place you live.

That's why we at Idaho Kind encourage you to get out there and embrace community by bringing these shared spaces back to life.

Cultural drift? What does that mean?

Cultural drift is the slow, unintentional change in a neighborhood or town's character, traditions, and social norms over time.

For those of us here in Idaho, this probably feels pretty familiar.
We started Idaho Kind to help prevent this very drift. Over the last 10 years, Idaho's population has changed immensely. We can't necessarily stop that growth, but we can be intentional about not letting the growth change us.

A good first step in raising awareness around Idaho's culture? Encourage people to become members of Idaho Kind, or pick up one of our Idaho Handbooks, How To Be An Idahoan, and give it to a new neighbor or friend as a welcome gift. Small actions like these don't just bring awareness to cultural drift; they also help others see the greatness of Idaho and want to protect our communities here.

Idaho has always been a place where people show up for each other, plain and simple.

Whether it’s pitching in at a weekend trail cleanup, helping out at the local food bank, or just turning out for a community meeting, our state’s strength comes from neighbors who care enough to do the work.

When you lend a hand locally, you’re helping protect what makes Idaho, Idaho. Preserving our culture isn’t an abstract idea; it’s about holding onto those practical, down-to-earth values that keep our towns connected. Every bit of effort helps us build a stronger, more aligned community for everyone who calls this state home.

Ways to pitch in this month:
🤍Help out at the Idaho Food Bank: Grab a few extra non-perishables during your groceries or sign up for a weekend sorting shift.
🤍Keep our public spaces clean: Volunteer with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation to help care for the lands we all enjoy.
🤍Show up locally: Head to a town hall, check out a weekend farmers market, or support a local fundraiser in your area.

What does being "Idaho Kind" actually mean?

Kindness shows up in a lot of ways, but around here, it hits a little different. It really comes down to a few basic things:

🤍Looking out for your neighbors. Holding the door, throwing up a wave from the steering wheel, shoveling a driveway, or just checking in when someone needs a hand.
🤍Leaving nature how you found it. Packing out your trash, staying on the trail, and keeping our rivers and public lands clean so they stay special.
🤍Protecting that small-town feel. Keeping the patience, warmth, and friendly vibe alive, no matter how fast our towns are growing.
