This Feel Good Friday is brought to you by VS Barbershop’s very own Dayton Newsome, our volunteer hairstylist extraordinaire!

Every other Friday, Dayton sets up shop at Interfaith Sanctuary and provides free haircuts to our guests. With a barber station generously donated by Rock Harbor Church in Meridian, he has delivered more than 300 haircuts and counting.

But Dayton brings much more than a fresh fade or a clean trim. He brings confidence and dignity back to our guests. He brings conversation, connection, and the chance for someone who may be going through a difficult time to look in the mirror and feel their better.

Thank you, Dayton, for sharing your time, your heart, and your incredible talent with our guests. And thank you to Rock Harbor Church for helping make this special ministry possible.

We are grateful to both of you for helping our guests look good, feel good, and move forward with confidence.

And Dayton, thank you for SHEARING your talent with us.

After a court-ordered review of omitted documents, Boise voted to uphold Interfaith Sanctuary's permit. The already-open shelter will continue operating as is.

We have a wonderful volunteer named Bob who spends his Monday and Wednesday mornings helping at our front desk.

Today, before I headed to City Hall, Bob, on his day off, brought me a handwritten note to carry it with me into the City Council meeting. It was a simple reminder of why we do this work and who we do it for.

His note read:

“The greatness and goodness of a nation, and all the freedoms therein, are based solely on how it treats its poor.”

And was signed- From Volunteer Bob

Thank you, Bob, for your kindness, your wisdom, and for reminding us that behind every policy, every meeting, and every decision are human beings deserving of dignity, compassion, and opportunity.

Today, I’ll carry your words with me.

He came to us from his secret island sharing his wisdom, making fairy sticks and photographing his life on the streets. For years shelter was not an option for him. He slowly got more comfortable with us through our programs. Project Recovery, Project Well Being, The Homeless Art Collective and WOTS. When we moved to our new shelter home he finally came inside and three months later he is housed! Congratulations Gypsy! His parting words- “I feel like a free bird! I’m so excited for this new chapter in my life
