Two years in a row. Service continues to shine in the George W. Kendall Chapter.

Our chapter has again been honored with the Service to America Award for the Highest Number of Service Hours in Texas among all DAR chapters.

This recognition reflects the generous heart for service of our members, whose volunteer hours support DAR’s mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism throughout our community.

We are grateful for every member who gives her time and talents, continuing illuminating our legacy through service.

Happy Read Across America Week!
Today, we celebrate the power of reading—and the dedicated educators, librarians, and volunteers who help students discover its magic. Education has always been at the heart of the DAR’s mission. From supporting school libraries and donating classroom supplies to reading with students in local schools, members across the country generously give their time and talents to invest in the next generation of readers. These meaningful acts of service help spark a lifelong love of learning.

Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading.

The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, so a perfect way to celebrate is to don a Seussian hat and read one his famous tales, like "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish."

DAR members can promote literacy every day by engaging with the society's Literacy Promotion Committee, encouraging community-based literacy activities that promote reading and learning.

Boerne Weihnachts Night Parade -

The George W. Kendall Chapter proudly participated in the 38th annual Boerne Weihnachts Night Parade with our float, the “Revered Christmas Ride.” This year’s parade theme, “Saddles and Sleighbells,” perfectly complemented our upcoming America250! Semiquincentennial and inspired the chapter to feature Paul Revere’s Ride. The float was decked out in sparkling lights, shining brightly along the parade route, and thoughtfully designed to illuminate our heritage! Special thanks to the Boerne Middle School Fife and Drum Corps who led the route, to our Parade Committee for creating our crowd pleasing float, and to our wonderful Paul Revere!

National Family History Month is celebrated every October, inviting Americans to research their heritage and connect with their past.

We’re so grateful for our friends at the Genealogical Society of Kendall County (GSKC)! The George W. Kendall Chapter, NSDAR proudly donated $300 to support their important work in education, preservation, and outreach—helping keep our community’s history alive for generations to come.

It’s amazing what a little teamwork and a lot of heart can do!

Every October, DAR members across the country celebrate the anniversary of the founding of our organization by participating in the National DAR Day of Service.

George W. Kendall Chapter members spent the morning preparing thousands of items for families in need at the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries Warehouse, creating a welcoming, easy-to-navigate shopping experience for the upcoming “family clothing replenishment” day.

With smiles and a heart for service, they helped ensure every family can find new clothing and accessories for the entire family!

The George W. Kendall Chapter, NSDAR, joined with other DAR Chapters, SAR Chapters and many other organizations at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for the 41st Annual Fourth of July Ceremony hosted by the Order of Granaderos y Damas de Galvez, San Antonio Chapter.

We were part of the "Solemn March and Presentation of Wreaths" as GWK Daughters presented our patriotic Wreath for the occasion.
The Ceremony included honoring the 13 Colonies; a Fife & Drum Musical Presentation; a wreath laying; an "Ataque" living history reenactment of a musket detail and a bayonet charge; and a 3 Volley Salute followed by Taps, honoring all who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country from the American Revolution to today.

Honoring Courage and Sacrifice - 81st Anniversary of D-Day

One of our George W. Kendall Chapter members recently embarked on a profound journey to Normandy alongside 23 World War II veterans as a volunteer for the Best Defense Foundation. Together, they commemorated the 81st anniversary of D-Day with heartfelt tributes and meaningful visits to significant historical sites.

During their visit, they were warmly welcomed by French students at a local school, participated in the moving Carentan parade, and paid their respects at iconic locations such as the Brittany American Cemetery, Mont Saint-Michel, and the Pegasus Bridge Memorial.

At the Normandy American Cemetery, they visited the headstones of nearly 10,000 brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. Our member honored the fallen by gently rubbing sand from Omaha Beach into the engraved names—a poignant gesture that brought their memory to life.

A special highlight was celebrating the 104th birthday of Miss Betty from the Army Nurse Corps - her incredible spirit and lifelong dedication to service continue to inspire all of us!

Join us in honoring these heroes.
