Memorial Day 2026 ❤️🤍💙

Members of the George W. Kendall Chapter, NSDAR, joined in remembrance and service throughout Memorial Day weekend.

In preparation for Memorial Day, chapter members helped tidy the Boerne Cemetery grounds and place flags on Veterans’ graves as a tribute to those who served our nation. As each flag was placed, a moment was taken to quietly reflect on the service and sacrifice of our Veterans.

On Memorial Day, members were honored to participate in the VFW Post 688 ceremony at the Boerne Cemetery. The presentation of the Colors, rifle salute, and the playing of Taps served as moving reminders of the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in service to our country.

We are grateful for opportunities to honor these heroes and preserve the tradition of remembrance for future generations.

Two years in a row. Service continues to shine in the George W. Kendall Chapter.

Our chapter has again been honored with the Service to America Award for the Highest Number of Service Hours in Texas among all DAR chapters.

This recognition reflects the generous heart for service of our members, whose volunteer hours support DAR’s mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism throughout our community.

Pictured are Texas DAR State Regent Susan Johnston and George W. Kendall Chapter Regent Laurie Ackels.

We are grateful for every member who gives her time and talents, continuing illuminating our legacy through service.

If you have a heart for service and a love of American history, we would be delighted to welcome you. Why not join us and be part of the George W. Kendall Chapter?

Happy Read Across America Week!
Today, we celebrate the power of reading—and the dedicated educators, librarians, and volunteers who help students discover its magic. Education has always been at the heart of the DAR’s mission. From supporting school libraries and donating classroom supplies to reading with students in local schools, members across the country generously give their time and talents to invest in the next generation of readers. These meaningful acts of service help spark a lifelong love of learning.

Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading.

The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, so a perfect way to celebrate is to don a Seussian hat and read one his famous tales, like "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish."

DAR members can promote literacy every day by engaging with the society's Literacy Promotion Committee, encouraging community-based literacy activities that promote reading and learning.

Boerne Weihnachts Night Parade -

The George W. Kendall Chapter proudly participated in the 38th annual Boerne Weihnachts Night Parade with our float, the “Revered Christmas Ride.” This year’s parade theme, “Saddles and Sleighbells,” perfectly complemented our upcoming America250! Semiquincentennial and inspired the chapter to feature Paul Revere’s Ride. The float was decked out in sparkling lights, shining brightly along the parade route, and thoughtfully designed to illuminate our heritage! Special thanks to the Boerne Middle School Fife and Drum Corps who led the route, to our Parade Committee for creating our crowd pleasing float, and to our wonderful Paul Revere!
