If you've been to a wedding reception, a purse bingo for the BP Cancer Group, pancake breakfast or a dance in Blooming Prairie over the years, there's a good chance it happened at the Servicemen's Club. The Liberty Room is one of the few spaces in town big enough to hold all of us — and it gets used.

The Club is home to the VFW, American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and their Auxiliaries, and it's been part of Blooming Prairie for decades. Right now, they're working to replace the blue carpet in the Liberty Room. It's a big space, so it's not a small project.

If you'd like to help, donations can be made online through the Foundation: https://www.blossomingcommunity.com/store/Blooming-Prairie-Servicemens-Club-Donation-p835509695

Every bit helps keep the Club ready for the next wedding, fundraiser, or event — and supports the Veterans who call it home

The summer after her sophomore year, while most students were working summer jobs or sleeping in, Chloe Weber was at the Hormel Institute. She had been selected for their BioDiscovery High School Internship on academic merit — a program that puts a small group of students inside an actual research environment. That curiosity, and the work ethic to chase it, is exactly what our Education pillar is meant to honor.

We are so proud to recognize Chloe Weber as the recipient of our 2026 Education pillar scholarship.

Chloe's academic record speaks for itself — a 4.218 GPA, top of her Calculus class, and the kind of student her teacher describes as approaching every challenge with "determination, persistence, and a genuine desire to understand." But what makes her a true Education pillar recipient is what she does with that academic drive. She represents her peers on the Cargill Advisory Panel, served as Vice President of the MASC SED Executive Board, has been a Student Council class officer all four years, and stepped up this year as the Red Cross Student Coordinator — organizing and hosting blood drives at BPHS.

And somewhere in there she still finds time to dance with Just For Kix, sing in chamber choir, teach Sunday School, letter in volleyball and track, and work nearly every day after school. Her teacher's letter put it simply: her ability to manage it all is "truly impressive."

This fall, Chloe heads to the University of Wisconsin–Platteville to study Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in biomedical engineering. Her goal: to design medical devices and prosthetics that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. She wants to take what she's learned and turn it into things that help people heal.

That's the Education pillar at its very best.

Congratulations, Chloe! Go build something amazing — we can't wait to see it.

Not many high school seniors can say they've testified before the Minnesota Senate. Madelyn Harvey can. This year, she stood in front of the Senate Education Finance Committee to advocate for a bill that would send more tax dollars to small out-state schools — schools exactly like Blooming Prairie.

That's the kind of young leader Madelyn is, and we are so proud to recognize her as the recipient of our Community pillar scholarship.

Her leadership story is everywhere you look. Madelyn is the 2025–26 BPHS Student Council President. She was one of just 17 students chosen statewide for the MSHSL Student Advisory and Leadership Team, and one of only three SALT seniors selected to attend the National Student Leadership Summit. She's a three-sport letter-winner in volleyball, basketball, and softball, a 2025 MSHSL ExCEL Award winner, and she carries a 4.089 GPA on top of everything she's involved with.

Around Blooming Prairie, she shows up in every corner: coaching BPRA youth volleyball, mentoring a fifth grader, reading at elementary assemblies, painting the town pink with the BP Cancer Group, packing meals at Feed My Starving Children, helping with the BP Backpack Program and FCCLA food drive, and serving as an altar server at St. Columbanus. Her science teacher of six years put it best: Madelyn "leads from within" — lifting up the people around her rather than stepping in front of them.

This fall, Madelyn heads to the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth to major in biology, with plans to earn a master's in occupational or physical therapy and work with children. She wants a career where helping others isn't occasional, but daily — and if her last four years are any indication, she's already living that way.

Congratulations, Madelyn! Blooming Prairie is so much better for having you, and we can't wait to see what you do next.

We are so proud to recognize Ambriella Miller as the recipient of our Community pillar scholarship — and she's quietly earned it through years of showing up for the people around her. Every school day, Ambriella Miller gives up her study hall to spend that hour in a kindergarten classroom at Blooming Prairie Elementary. She doesn't have to, but she calls it her favorite part of the week — and watching her with those five-year-olds, you can see her future in real time.

The kindergarten classroom is only the start of it. Ambriella has taught Sunday School at her church, mentored younger students through confirmation, helped run her younger sister's volleyball program, served as the Westfield wrestling team manager, and pitched in with FCCLA, concession stands, cancer week flags, golf tournaments, and youth wrestling camps. And she's done all of it while playing three sports of her own — volleyball, golf, and track & field — and carrying a 4.088 GPA.

What the committee kept coming back to, though, wasn't the length of the list. It was the through-line. Whether she's with kindergartners, peers, or her own teammates, Ambriella shows up the same way: quietly, consistently, and without needing credit for it.

This fall she's heading to the University of Northern Iowa to study Elementary Education, with plans to teach and eventually earn her master's. While she'll be missed in Blooming Prairie, the time she spends at UNI will give her the knowledge and tools to be some future classroom's bright star.

Congratulations, Ambriella. Go be the teacher you already are.

The Blooming Prairie Ambulance Service is hosting their Annual Open House on Tuesday, May 19th from 4:00–7:00 PM at the ambulance garage (501 4th Street SE). Food, tours, vital sign checks, bounce houses for the kids, and a 5:00 PM recognition of their retirees.

We're lucky to have the people who run this service in our community. They train, they take the calls, and they keep showing up year after year so the rest of us have somewhere to turn when something goes wrong. Words won't ever fully cover it, but most of us can probably agree we don't tell them thank you nearly often enough.

If you can make it on the 19th, take a few minutes to thank them in person. If you can't, drop a comment below — they'll see it. And if you're in a position to support them financially, donations can be made online and go a long way toward keeping this service running.

This year, the Blossoming Community Foundation offered scholarships to graduating Blooming Prairie seniors under each of our four mission pillars — Community, Arts, Recreation, and Education. Applicants chose the pillar that best reflected their strengths, involvement, and future goals, and we looked for students whose lives already show the qualities those pillars represent. We weren't just looking for strong résumés; we were looking for students who have invested in this town and plan to keep investing in the places they go next.

A note about this year's class of applicants — every single applicant we reviewed was awardable. Choosing recipients wasn't easy, because every student who applied brought something to the table, and it speaks volumes about the families, teachers, coaches, and neighbors who have poured into these kids. This is why the Blossoming Community Foundation does what we do. This is why we believe so deeply in Blooming Prairie.

We are so proud to recognize Cannon Wacek as the recipient of our Recreation pillar scholarship — and what a fitting match he is. A three-sport athlete at Blooming Prairie High School in football, wrestling, and track & field, Cannon has worn the captain's "C" on the football and wrestling mats, earned a spot as a State Wrestling Qualifier, served as a Gopher Conference SALT representative, and was voted Homecoming King by his classmates. Oh, and he carries a 4.002 GPA while doing it.

But what truly stood out to our committee is the kind of young man Cannon is off the field. He mentors sixth graders with math, volunteers at youth wrestling camps, helps with the BP Cancer Group, the Education Foundation auction, the Quarterback Club, and shows up for his community wherever and whenever he's needed.

After two knee surgeries during high school, Cannon could have stepped back. Instead, he found a new direction — a calling, really. This fall, he's heading to the University of Northern Iowa to study Kinesiology/Exercise Science on a Pre-Physical Therapy track, with the goal of helping other athletes recover and return to the sports and lives they love.

Congratulations, Cannon! The whole community is cheering you on as you head to UNI. Go make a difference — we know you will.

The Blossoming Community Foundation is proud to present a check for $700 to the Blooming Prairie Community Band, with support from the Knights of Columbus. Pictured is Jeff Kramer presenting the check on behalf of the Blossoming Community Foundation to Troy Anderson, accepting on behalf of the Community Band.

The Community Band is made up of local residents who come together to practice and perform throughout the community for everyone to enjoy. It's a wonderful organization that gives musicians a place to keep playing long after their school years and gives the rest of us the chance to enjoy their talents.

Supporting the arts is one of the four pillars of the Blossoming Community Foundation's mission, alongside community, recreation, and education. We're grateful to the Knights of Columbus for partnering with us on this donation, and we're excited to help keep music alive in Blooming Prairie.

The Blossoming Community Foundation is excited to donate $2,500 to the Blooming Prairie After Prom. Jeff Kramer and Kent Lea from the Blossoming Community Foundation presented the check to Sami Nelson on behalf of the After Prom committee.

The mission of the Blossoming Community Foundation is to improve the quality of life for present and future generations by supporting Blooming Prairie projects that focus on community, arts, recreation, and education — and the After Prom is a perfect fit. This event provides our students with a safe, fun, and memorable night to celebrate, and we're proud to help make it possible.

Thank you to everyone who supports the Foundation and helps us give back to our community.

Earlier this year, we shared how Blossoming Community Foundation stepped in to help the country club after a pipe burst caused extensive damage to the clubhouse. Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Hanson Family Foundation through MBT Bank, we were able to help cover some of those initial repair costs.

Since then, generous donors in our community have stepped up in a big way. Thanks to their support, along with an additional funds directly from Blossoming Community Foundation, we were able to present the Blooming Prairie Country Club with a $10,000 check to help finish the handicap-accessible bathroom and catering kitchen in the clubhouse.

That brings our total gift to the Blooming Prairie Country Club to $15,000. None of it would be possible without the generosity of our donors, the Hanson Family Foundation, and MBT Bank.

This is exactly what Blossoming Community Foundation is here for — stepping in when there's a need and partnering with the people and organizations that make Blooming Prairie a better place for all of us.

If you'd like to help us keep supporting projects like this, consider joining our sustained giving campaign. Even $10 a month adds up and makes a real difference by the end of the year.
