Essex County is drowning in kittens right now. We are doing our best to spay and neuter every mom, dad and kitten to stop the cycle. Thanks always to our dear friends at Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter for making sure this family gets the care they need while we spay and neuter like crazy!

(Enjoy the commentary from 2-year-old junior volunteer Adam).

Community Cat Workshop!
Community cats are not homeless. They just live outside!

Trap-Neuter-Return is the best way to show them you love them, whether they are feral or friendly or anywhere in between. When a cat is TNR’d, they live longer, healthier lives - and the cycle of kittens being born outside stops. Caring for outdoor cats? We’ll share best practices for keeping a colony (and your neighbors) happy. We’ll share details about our program, which is supported by the Essex County Board of Commissioners, and other local resources. If you love cats and want to help reduce shelter intake and euthanasia, this workshop is the perfect place to start.

Shepherd’s story is a heartbreaking one, but it’s filled with hope too.

Caregiver Dana trapped Shepherd knowing that she would need medical attention. Her coat was dirty and it was obvious she wasn’t feeling well. Dana brought Shepherd to a vet to get her checked out. Shepherd was positive for giardia and roundworms and her bloodwork showed mild anemia and a high white blood cell count. She was ultimately cleared for her spay procedure.
Shepherd went with other CPAW cats to Preventive Paws. We relayed her medical history so that the team would have the full picture. During her spay, the surgery team saw that she was pregnant and had pyometra. Pyometra is an infection that can turn deadly. Luckily, the cure is a spay, during which the uterus is removed from the body. Shepherd got antibiotics to help her fight infection.
She would no longer need to worry about going through labor and caring for kittens. Her future is bright, thanks to her caregiver Dana who went above and beyond.
Spay/neuter is the ultimate act of love!
