The Kill Devil Hills Police Department (KDHP) in North Carolina welcomed a new K-9 officer named Sailor, a beagle trained as an Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) dog, in September 2025.

She works with Detective Peden in the Criminal Investigation Division, focusing on the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Eastern Region Human Trafficking Task Force.

In addition to her detection work, Sailor is trained as a therapy K9 to provide comfort to victims and build community trust.

She is a beagle with a keen sense of smell, chosen for her ability to scent, compact size, and approachable nature.

🐾 K9 Spotlight: Meet Tango & Officer Hoffman! 🐾

The Omaha Police Department is proud to recognize K9 Tango and his handler, Officer Hoffman—a focused, no-nonsense team built for the job.

👮 On the Job:
Tango has been with OPD for two years and is trained in Patrol, Narcotics, and Tracking. One standout moment in his career includes successfully tracking two suspects from a stolen vehicle to a garage, helping bring the incident to a safe resolution. Tango is all about work—plain and simple.

🐶 Personality & Favorites:
When it’s time for a reward, Tango prefers his tug toy. Off-duty, you’ll find him chewing on a Kong or barking from his kennel, keeping an eye (and an ear) on everything around him. One thing to know—he’s not a fan of having his toes touched.

🌍 Background:
Tango is a Belgian Malinois from Europe and shares his name with an action-movie duo—Tango and Cash from the 1989 film. His night-shift counterpart, K9 Cash, carries the other half of the name.

🤝 Partner Bond:
Tango and Officer Hoffman have been partnered for two years. Officer Hoffman describes Tango simply as a “working dog.” First impression? No hesitation—“Let’s get to work.”

"Deputy Lawson had no warning when a fugitive burst from a closet and lunged at him with a serrated knife. The blade was aimed directly at his neck — a killing strike. Lawson didn’t have time to react. But his K9 partner, Titan, did.

The 85-pound German Shepherd launched himself into the attacker, taking the stab deep into his flank — a blow meant for Lawson. As backup subdued the suspect, Titan collapsed, bleeding heavily.

Lawson scooped him into his arms, ignored protocol, and sped to the emergency vet with sirens wailing, keeping pressure on the wound and begging, “Don’t quit on me.”

Veterinarians worked for three hours to stop the internal bleeding.

Lawson never left his side, whispering to the dog who had saved his life.

When Titan finally lifted his tail, Lawson broke down in relief. He walked out knowing he owed every breath to the dog resting in recovery."

TEXAS: K-9 Rocky, a U.S. Marshals' K-9 service dog, was shot three times during a manhunt for a Brazoria County Deputy’s suspected killer. Rocky was flown by helicopter to an emergency vet clinic and is expected to recover, but officials say it could “take a while.”
