Gateway Assembly sent 17 people to George’s Plain this summer. Here’s what Dan brought home.

“Our team of 17 was so excited to be heading to Jamaica. We had already seen God move BIG in our fundraising and our training, and we were ready to say YES to whatever Jesus was going to do.

On day one of travel, we realized that some things are out of our control. Missed connections, delay after delay, unexpected financial burdens. After hours of frustration and being told by the airline there were no options, Jesus showed up, and our team’s motto for the week was born: ‘Why not?’

When we arrived, we were greeted by the most amazing Adventures Relief team, and we were ready to rebuild what Hurricane Melissa had taken from this beautiful country.

We completed roofs on two homes and half a roof on a church. We threw a block party for the kids. We prayed, worked, tried some very interesting Jamaican food, climbed waterfalls, worshipped Jesus with everything we had, and sweated a lot.

Through every unexpected moment, every obstacle and every blessing, we kept coming back to the same question. Why not say yes? Why not take the risk? Why not step outside of what is comfortable? Why not be the hands and feet of Jesus?

We went to Jamaica thinking we were going to serve. We came home realizing how much God had changed us in the process.

Say yes. Take the risk. Why not?”

Maybe that’s a question worth asking today.

We are still inviting people to George’s Plain, and we mean everybody. All ages, 16 and up. Every walk of life. Every skill level, including none at all.

Why not a week with your family? Why not bring your church, your small group, your crew from work? Why not come on your own and meet the rest of us there?

“I have never been so scared in my life.”

Hurricane Ian nearly erased Harlem Heights.

Adventures Relief showed up and stayed two years, until the work was finished.

Years later, those same residents came to western North Carolina to rebuild for people they’d never met.

Help came full circle.

3,500 volunteers. Hundreds of families. Two winters. One community.

Two years ago Helene tore through Western North Carolina. What started as an emergency response turned into something none of us planned.

Homeowners became friends. Churches, neighbors, and partners showed up alongside us. Job sites turned into places where people prayed together.

Meeting a seen need opens the door to an unseen need. We got to watch that happen over and over, usually because someone else made room for us first.

Our part of the response is wrapping up, and Western North Carolina is still being cared for by people who live there. So we’re gathering to say thank you.

Good morning from Jamaica. ☀️

Here’s what disaster relief actually looks like: muddy work boots, aching backs, and a whole lot of people showing up before sunrise to sit with families in the middle of what the hurricane left behind.

Because faith isn’t just something we feel, it has work boots. It carries debris, rebuilds walls, and turns strangers into neighbors.

This is joy meeting grit. And honestly? It’s some of the best work you’ll ever be a part of.

We keep saying it because it’s true: love looks like something. Come see for yourself. There’s room for you on the ground here in Jamaica, and we’d love for the next set of boots to be yours.

Pray for those who are grieving, for first responders, churches, and neighbors serving one another, and for the peace and strength that only the Lord can provide.

Some missionaries preach. Some build homes. Some simply wag their tail.

For eight years, God has used this fearless boy to make people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. We've watched him comfort strangers, make kids laugh, and open doors for conversations we'd never have otherwise.

Right now, families in Venezuela are experiencing fear, uncertainty, and the aftermath of today's earthquake.

Today we invite YOU to stop what you're doing and pray.

Pray for those who are hurting.
Pray for families spending tonight in uncertainty.
Pray for first responders and relief organizations rushing to help.
Pray for local churches to be places of refuge, hope, and healing.

Today we want to celebrate the fathers on our Adventures Relief team.

These men are leading their families, discipling their children, serving their communities, and showing up in some of the hardest places imaginable. They rebuild homes, mentor volunteers, sit with homeowners, pray with strangers, and still come home each day to be husbands and dads.

We have the privilege of watching fathers step into the light and invite others to do the same. When a dad chooses generosity, service, humility, and faithfulness, it changes a family. It changes a neighborhood. Sometimes it even changes an entire community.

Today we honor all the dads who are choosing to be the light in their own lives, homes, and beyond.

And to the fathers on our leadership team: thank you. Thank you for serving sacrificially, leading courageously, and showing the next generation what it looks like to follow Jesus and love people well.

The Lord is continuing to move in North Carolina!

Since Hurricane Helene, God has continued moving through the people of Western North Carolina — and through every volunteer who has said “yes” to serving.

So far through Adventures Relief:
• 454 homeowners supported
• 2,962 volunteers mobilized
• 159,948 volunteer hours served
• $5.2 million+ in volunteer labor value

But the work isn’t finished.

We have teams serving in North Carolina every single week, and we need more people to join the mission. Come help rebuild homes, restore hope, and be the hands and feet of Jesus in the Swannanoa Valley.

You don’t need special skills — just a willing heart.
