CERT Invites the Community to a Fall Open House

Meet the volunteers who show up when it counts — and find out how to
join the team

Black Mountain CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) will host a community Open House on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 5:30–6:30 PM at Peri Social House at 406 West State Street in Black Mountain.

The event is free and open to anyone who wants to learn what CERT does, meet many of the current volunteers, and find out how to get involved — no pre-registration or RSVP is required to attend.

Are you curious about the citizen volunteers working around Black Mountain in bright green vests? Do you wonder if it would be a good fit for you? This event is intended to give you the opportunity to ask questions, meet other volunteers, and see what CERT does to support your community.

How To Join
An application can be filled out on the Black Mountain CERT website
(https://BlackMountainCERT.org) but the best way to see if this is the right fit for a volunteer is to attend one of our Open House events where we explain what we do, and you get a chance to meet the amazing people who make CERT happen.

Black Mountain CERT Awarded Additional Grant Funding; Accepting Applications for Training and Membership; Now On Social Media

Black Mountain, NC – May 4, 2026

BLACK MOUNTAIN CERT TO EXPAND WITH ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDING

The Black Mountain CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is pleased to announce a grant from the Black Mountain - Swannanoa Valley Endowment Fund of $10,000.00 to expand the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Program. The additional grant funds will help meet the expenses involved with welcoming new members onto the team and more volunteers can get training, gain credibility with certification, wear the “uniform” of vest, hat, and shield patch.

“Black Mountain CERT runs on the energy of volunteers”, explained Dr. Wendy Coin, one of the senior leaders of Black Mountain CERT. “That energy is multiplied when fueled with equipment and clothing provided by this grant.”

NOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA

As part of the Black Mountain CERT expansion efforts to communicate our mission, the Team is now on both LinkedIn and Facebook. CERT members and supporters are encouraged to share these resources with others interested in preparedness and in giving back to our community.

TRAINING AND JOINING THE BLACK MOUNTAIN CERT TEAM

The Black Mountain CERT continues to expand its volunteer corps by accepting membership applications from people who live, work, or worship in Black Mountain and want to be better prepared for emergencies in their home, their neighborhood, and to serve their community.

The next CERT training class is scheduled for August 7-8-9 and there are still a few openings for those interested. Black Mountain CERT welcomes anyone who is “CERT Curious” to get in touch by visiting the website. Learn about the Basic Training Class in August, about joining the team, and how you can be better prepared.

Black Mountain CERT is funded in part by a grant from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.
