Regarding a zoning appeal for the expansion of the trailer park on Shell Mill, rd. from existing 66 lots to adding 60 more lots.... There was a BZA meeting last Thursday for a variance request for the wastewater treatment plant. It was tabled because enough people showed up to the meeting. The park expansion is a go, however, getting this request denied will certainly make it harder for them to reach full capacity. Any people, letters you can rally would certainly help. I'll keep you posted on the rescheduled meeting date. Apparently it's going to be a lot of section 8 housing. I understand affordable housing is a serious issue/concern in the area but now it's at the expense of the river... TJC

WE NEED YOUR INPUT! Join us for 1 or more of our second round of Community Meetings for Marshes for Tomorrow (MfT), an ambitious project aiming to identify, protect, and restore at least 25,000 acres of the most important tidal salt marsh habitat in Maryland for Saltmarsh Sparrows. We recognize community input is exceptionally important for the success of this project in identifying the best locations to concentrate our conservation and restoration efforts for birds and people. This is the second round of meetings, after the first round of community meetings that were held in January 2024. You are invited to attend one or more of the four meetings, as they each address a similar overall theme but will address subjects specific to the region in which each meeting is held. You can expect differing feedback and points-of-view from each meeting.

This photo was taken by the owner of the hive. The beekeeper forgot to put in the frames where the bees store honey, so they built their own architecture from the honeycomb, which takes into account natural ventilation, allowing air to circulate freely and maintain a stable temperature. Incredible! 🐝

Good to know!
To help the bees during the summer months there are fewer flowers and other food sources for the bees.
Water is also scarce and so many bees drown as they try to drink from the pools.
Grate an apple and add some water to a bowl.
The bees will be able to get the sugars from the fruit and drink the water and not drown as they can stand on the pieces of fruit.
Our bee populations are threatened, let's give them all the support we can.

Bees will take their nutrients from anything which has sugar and moisture. Feeding them watermelon if conditions are tough is a good idea because it’s got plenty of fructose and moisture! The photo and information is from Heather Harvey, a park ranger with the National Park Service.

Did you know this week is National Pollinator Week? Here is what we are doing to celebrate!

Come out and join us at the National Seashore Visitor Center in Maryland tomorrow, Saturday, June 22nd at 10:30am! There you can hear from a master beekeeper and view an observation hive from 10am-12pm.
