Today we pause to honor the visionary behind it all… Dr. Lovella E. Jones
Your heart for people, your commitment to community, and your unwavering belief in the power of ideas created something truly special with TEDxEnsley Avenue ED.

You didn’t just organize an event… you created space.

Space for voices to be heard.

Space for stories to matter.

Space for 16 World Shifters to step onto the red circle and shift the atmosphere.

And in one of the most powerful acts of leadership… you were willing to fade to the back so others could shine.

That kind of leadership is rare. That kind of impact is lasting.

Thank you for your vision, your sacrifice, and your bold YES.

“Belief changes performance. That’s why Nike didn’t just sell shoes. Nike sold a belief.”

This one made me think differently.

Because before performance ever shows up, belief has already taken root. What you believe about yourself shapes how you show up, how you move, and what you’re willing to pursue.

It’s not just about skill. It’s not just about opportunity. It’s about what you’ve decided is possible for you.

When belief shifts, everything else follows.

This one… it was powerful.

“…everybody and their mama has an opinion about everything and they have no problems voicing their opinion from behind the board of a keyboard.”

This one felt real and relevant.

In a world where everyone has something to say, it’s easy to get caught up in the noise. The opinions, the commentary, the constant chatter that can distract, discourage, or even derail you.

But not every voice deserves your attention. Not every opinion deserves your energy.

There’s a difference between feedback that builds and noise that pulls you away from your purpose.

This one… it reminded me to stay focused and protect my space.

“Grit is a response to the environment. It is what a child develops when conditions recommend it, when conditions demand it, when conditions say you must.”

This one made me pause.

We celebrate grit like it’s the goal. Like it’s something to be admired without question.

But this reminds us that grit is often born out of necessity… not choice.

It challenges us to look deeper. To ask why a child had to develop that level of resilience in the first place.

Because the goal shouldn’t be to raise children who can endure anything. The goal should be to create environments where they don’t have to.

This one… it shifted the responsibility.

“At some point in our lives, we’ve all known what it felt like to be ostracized and cast out and be told we don’t belong here.”

This one felt personal.

Because whether we admit it or not, we’ve all had moments where we questioned if we belonged. Moments where we felt unseen, unheard, or pushed to the margins.

But this quote doesn’t just highlight the pain… it reminds us of the shared human experience.

And in that, there is power. There is connection. There is healing.

Because even in those moments, belonging is not something others get to define for you.

This one… it stayed with me in a different way.

“I was asking, how do I build this instead of who’s already building? I was asking, what do they need instead of what do they already know?”

This one shifted the approach.

It’s not always about creating something new. Sometimes it’s about recognizing what already exists and building with intention around it.

When you focus on people… their needs, their gaps, their reality… your work becomes more meaningful and more impactful.

It moves from ego to service. From assumption to understanding.

This one… it changed the lens.

“Guys, we should be having conversations that are hard conversations but are important conversations.”

This one felt necessary.

Too often we avoid the conversations that make us uncomfortable. The ones that challenge us. The ones that require honesty, vulnerability, and courage.

But growth doesn’t happen in silence. Change doesn’t happen in comfort.

The conversations that are hardest to have are often the ones that matter the most.

This one… it called us higher.
