WPI is the Women’s Foundation of Alabama’s 40-hour experiential learning fellowship designed to equip community leaders with the knowledge, tools, and relationships to advocate for public policy change. Fellows strengthen their advocacy skills, build connections across Alabama, and learn how to turn community priorities into action.

This Women’s Equality Day, we are reflecting on the progress made possible when research, advocacy and collective action come together on behalf of Alabama women. 📈

From advancing equal pay and protecting pregnant women to strengthening maternal health, expanding access to quality child care and supporting student parents, Women’s Foundation of Alabama has helped turn the needs of women and families into meaningful policy progress. Most recently, that work has included supporting paid parental leave for Alabama public school employees and securing continued investment in the Student Parent Success Model.

As students across Alabama head back to school this August, we’re reminded that what surrounds a young person outside the classroom can be just as important as what happens inside it. This Black Philanthropy Month, the Birmingham Times highlighted the power of collective investment, including the work of the Brilliant Black Girl Collective, a giving circle of Women’s Foundation of Alabama dedicated to creating access and opportunity for Black and Brown girls.

Since its founding, the Collective has awarded $158,000 in scholarships, helping young women pursue their education, expand what they believe is possible and step boldly into their futures. Today, we’re throwing it back to our 2024 scholarship celebration.

As a new school year begins, WFA is proud to support efforts that invest in Alabama’s girls today and help build stronger communities for generations to come.

Our signature research report, Clearing the Path, highlights the critical role women play in Alabama’s economy while outlining actionable solutions to strengthen our state’s economy by expanding women’s participation in the workforce.

Last month, our statewide Clearing the Path listening tour continued with a stop in Mobile. We saw firsthand the strength, insight, and leadership this region has to offer, and we were honored to join local leaders, changemakers, and community members in centering women’s voices and discussing the barriers they continue to face.

These conversations continue to energize our work and reinforce the importance of this moment and what is at stake. When women are supported, our communities, businesses, and economy all thrive.

As we celebrate President & CEO Kimberly L. Jackson’s first anniversary with the Women’s Foundation of Alabama, we are reflecting on a year marked by vision, connection, and momentum! Under Kimberly’s leadership, WFA has continued to bring people together, invest in opportunity, and advance the conversations and solutions needed to build a stronger future for women across our state.

Her leadership has helped carry forward a legacy of impact while inviting us to imagine what more is possible when women have the resources, power, and opportunity to thrive.

From dinner tables to waiting rooms, from quiet sacrifices to everyday acts of love, mothers and mother figures show up in ways that hold families and communities together.

At the Women’s Foundation of Alabama, we know this work is deeply meaningful and rooted in purpose. Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, bonus moms, and mother figures who mother our courage, our care, and our commitment to building a better Alabama.
