Still reflecting on Barbie Dream Night. 💕🏀
There are moments when I realize this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Being in a room filled with girls, sports, community, history, encouragement, and possibility reminded me how much I love creating experiences that bring all of those worlds together.
What started as an idea became a full house of more than 60 girls and parents on a Monday night right before school started. We watched women compete at the highest level, celebrated Birmingham women who helped make sports history in our own city, created space for young girls to learn about careers beyond playing and coaching, and simply allowed them to feel seen and celebrated.
What has stayed with me just as much as the event itself has been the outpouring of responses afterward from parents, coaches, and community supporters who attended.
The messages, conversations, and feedback reminded me that the girls were not the only ones impacted.
Parents shared how meaningful it was for their daughters to be in a space centered around confidence, representation, and opportunity. Coaches appreciated seeing their athletes exposed to possibilities beyond the game. Community supporters saw firsthand why creating intentional experiences for girls matters.
That is what sports philanthropy looks like to me.
It is not only donating money or hosting a camp. It is using sports as a vehicle to create access, education, exposure, community investment, and experiences that can expand what a young person believes is possible for her life.
One of my favorite parts of this work will always be elevating others—honoring the women who came before us, making sure their stories are remembered, and creating opportunities for the girls coming behind us.
I get to take an idea, build the partnerships, create the experience, bring the community together, and watch girls walk away with memories, resources, representation, and a bigger view of what their future can look like.
Sports gave me so much, and being able to use what I’ve learned through sports to create opportunities for other girls means more to me than I can fully explain.
More community.
More access.
More girls seeing what is possible. 💕
Happy Black Philanthropy Month! 🖤
