💫💫💫Class of '26 Mental Health Workers💫💫💫
This semester a group of nine Academy of Health Sciences seniors successfully completed the Skills for Success Mental Health Worker program, through a partnership between G.W.Carver High School and the Alabama Communiry College System's Innovation Center.
These students worked diligently to complete their online modules and hands-on skills learning, with the group of nine averaging a testing score of 98%

The curriculum of the Mental Health Worker program focuses on the essential technical and interpersonal skills needed to support patients in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community organizations.
Mental Health Concepts studied included understanding common disorders, treatment options, and psychiatric rehabilitation.
Crisis intervention studied included techniques for identifying and responding to behavioral health crises.
Communication & support concepts studied included mastering therapeutic communication, empathy, and patient care fundamentals.
Ethics & Law concepts studied included ethical practices and mental health laws.
Graduates of this program are equipped to work in high-demand fields across Alabama as Mental Health Assistants, Behavioral Health Specialists, or Psychiatric Technicians.
Special thank you to Mr. Davenport, a teacher at our school, who also works as a behavioral technician level 3, who came to speak to this group about what it is like to work in the field!
Congratulations to these nine students! They join six other class of 2026 seniors who have also successfully completed this training over the past two school years, for a total of 15 members of the class of 2026 having received the Mental Health Worker credential.
