I recently have started working with Second Shift Alabama which supports aged out foster youth in Alabama (300 youth age out of foster care in AL each year) and helps with housing, jobs, mentorship and more. For Christmas, we are hoping to gift our foster youth with gift cards!
Why gift cards?
- Gift cards allow the youth to buy what they need or want as they need it.
- Food and Uber are big asks due to many of them not having cars to go to work or shop.
- Amazon allows you to order groceries using EBT so it helps them get groceries delivered when they don’t have a car.
- For youth who are homeless or couch surf, gift cards are easier to carry around than things.
