A holiday tree decorating contest to raise funds for foster teens about to age out of the system.

The Great Decorate, a holiday tree decorating contest to raise awareness and funds for local foster teens aging-out of the foster care system. The foster teen recipients will be selected through a partnership with the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange (M.A.R.E.). Each year in the United States, more than 250,000 children are placed in foster care and over 26,500 age-out, including 1,700 in Michi

gan alone. Starting November 18th, 2021 visitors can view magnificent, beautifully decorated trees in restaurants and retail locations throughout downtown Birmingham and vote for their favorite tree by donating in-person or online. 100% of donations will go directly to local foster teens to use toward their future when they turn 18.

This past year, our efforts to help raise money to support Michigan foster teens in need resulted in a total of $46,202.23 that will be divided among the teens. We did it together. 🌟Meet Toriana - a source of family fun with a range of interests and hobbies. She finds joy in playing Capture the Flag, particularly in the glow of the evening with glow sticks. Roller-skating with friends and spending time with pets, especially puppies and dogs, are other activities she relishes. Toriana is not only a game enthusiast but also a talented artist, often referred to as "an amazing artist" by one of her close adults. She has dabbled in sports like volleyball and gymnastics and possesses a spirit of adventure, dreaming of visiting Tinsel Town to experience its night lights, see the iconic Hollywood sign, and even go snorkeling to encounter sharks – all while keeping safety a priority. Her favorite things include lasagna, the colors pink, black, and purple, and math as her preferred subject in school. Toriana harbors big dreams of living in a mansion and visiting Disneyland.

When asked to describe herself, Toriana identifies as funny, creative, and lively. She has a deep love for animals, enjoys food, and has a knack for making funny and quirky faces and voices. Those who know her also acknowledge her intelligence and describe her as a beautiful, happy, loving, and caring child.

She values the support and compliments she receives for her creative expression. Additionally, Shiann has a passion for singing, dancing, cooking, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. Playing games on her tablet is among her favorite pastimes.

This song narrates the story of the eldest of 12 girls facing life's chaos, finding solace and support from her sisters. Myah parallels her life, emphasizing the importance of support and encouragement from friends.

She aspires to earn degrees in art, music, cosmetology, and hairstyling, driven by a desire to help those less fortunate. 🌟Meet Monica, who prefers to be called Renee. She is a spirited individual who finds joy in outdoor activities. Renee loves staying active, particularly in the yard, where she enjoys planting flowers and engaging in landscaping activities. Renee has a passion for sports, including track, biking, roller skating, and exploring new athletic endeavors. In her current home, she takes pleasure in walking the family dog and contributing to household tasks. Additionally, Renee has a talent for singing, particularly rapping, and aspires to pursue it as a profession.

She dreams of visiting Hollywood, not only because she's never been but also to seek inspiration for her singing career. Renee is an aspiring professional with plans to build a career in the criminal justice field while maintaining a side position in cosmetology. Her favorites include pizza, the color pink, and dogs. Renee's ideal after-school activity is sleeping, and she cherishes holidays like Halloween and Christmas, relishing the time spent with family.

🌟Meet Michael. He's a talented teen who takes an interactive approach to school. “Michael is on the principal advisory committee at school, which allows him to share his thoughts, suggestions, and any ideas relating to school functioning,” says an adult advocate. “He is social and outgoing and enjoys participating in sports, groups, and clubs. Michael likes to be involved and would like to continue being involved in teen activities. He also likes to try new things.”

Michael serves as a percussionist in the school band, and he participates in wrestling and wants to join the track team. He loves other sports such as football and basketball. Michael’s love of the outdoors shows in the reason why he wants to go to Florida. “It never snows,” he says, “it’s hot; I’d always be able to play basketball outside as well as go hunting and fishing.” In quieter times, Michael enjoys playing video games, listening to music, and reading. “Michael is very into anything related to Harry Potter,” says a close adult. Michael shares something in common with Potter author J.K. Rowling because he takes the most pride in writing his book that’s going to be published. But instead of being an author, Michael wants to become an engineer when he gets older. He also wants a trillion dollars, a home, and a family “consisting of 10 kids,” he says.

🚘 If you want to ignite Matthew's enthusiasm, take him to the land of Lamborghini, his dream destination. Matthew's eyes light up at the thought of being surrounded by Lamborghini cars. His dream is to visit a place where these sleek machines are abundant and maybe even get behind the wheel of one.

Despite his dreamy aspirations, Matthew is a grounded young man with a passion for organized sports like football, basketball, and soccer. He cherishes playing catch and basketball with friends and enjoys the freedom of riding his bike. On weekends, he's all about music and early morning TV.

When it comes to food, Matthew's palate is diverse, from chicken alfredo to burgers from McDonald's or a feast at Taco Bell, his favorite restaurant. He dreams of a future as a professional football or basketball player, but above all, he longs for a forever family that shares his love for outdoor activities.

An adult close to Matthew recognizes his potential for greatness. He excels in sports, loves science, and is a master at playing Beyblades.
