We are thrilled to have been highlighted for receiving the 2026 BOLD grant with our mission to help artists bloom in the Magic City.

We are actively building the Ensley Creative Economy by focusing on three key pillars:

> Arts Education: Engaging with students across
Birmingham City high schools to teach and inspire through the arts.

> Artist Economic Development: Employing over 50 creatives annually through concerts, residencies, and workshop series.

> A Black Arts District: Revitalizing the Ensley area with community-focused events, from trunk-or-treats to creative workshops, proving that Ensley is a place where creativity thrives!

WE’RE HIRING: Development Director
The Flourish Alabama is looking for a strategic, relationship-driven Development Director to help lead our next phase of growth.

We’re currently operating at approximately $550,000 annually, with a goal of growing toward a $1.2 million annual organization. We’re looking for someone who can help us build the relationships, partnerships, and fundraising strategy to make that growth possible.

This is not primarily a grant-writing position. We already have a grant writer on our team.

We’re looking for someone who can:
→ Build relationships with foundations, corporations, sponsors, and individual donors
→ Develop and execute a two-year fundraising strategy
→ Identify and cultivate new funding prospects
→ Develop corporate sponsorships and major donor relationships
→ Support capital fundraising as we continue building spaces for our work
→ Strengthen our donor base and development systems
→ Create fundraising campaigns and events
→ Work alongside our Marketing Manager to strengthen The Flourish’s story and case for support
→ Help position the organization for sustainable growth
Compensation: $25/hour, up to 30 hours/week during an initial three-month period, with the potential for increased hours and compensation as the organization grows and the role develops.

We’re especially interested in experienced fundraisers looking for a part-time opportunity, as well as early-career development professionals who are ambitious, strategic, relationship-oriented, and ready to grow with an organization.

Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Hours: Up to 30 hours/week
Rate: $25/hour initially

If you’re someone who can look at an organization from a bird’s-eye view, see where the money and relationships are, and then go build those relationships, we want to hear from you!

Apply here: http://tinyurl.com/flourishdev26

Please share this opportunity with someone who would be a great fit for The Flourish.

THE MAGIC CITY NETWORK CYPHER. An Open Call for the Underground Birmingham, step into the Multiverse.

The Magic City Network Cypher is an open call for performers, creators, and unconventional entertainers ready to bring their world to the stage at the Multiverse Ball.

We’re searching across three dimensions:

LIQUID FIRE
Pure, unapologetic passion. Raw talent, heightened emotion, fierce confidence, and the kind of performance that burns through the room.

NEON MIRAGE
Where illusion and reality blur. Fame, fantasy, nightlife, altered states, masks, transformation, glamour, and everything glowing between what is real and what we pretend is real.

CONCRETE JUNGLE
The collision of human emotion and the urban landscape. Survival. Respect. Street culture. Breaking free from structures and making your voice heard above the noise.

HOW IT WORKS

Submit a video of your act, 60 seconds or less, and choose the theme that best represents your performance.

The public will vote on submissions from each category.

ONE artist or act from each category will advance, creating THREE finalists.

Those three finalists will perform a 3–10 minute live set at the Multiverse Ball on November 21.

21+ TO ENTER / ENTRY FEE: $10

On September 8th, join The Flourish Alabama in partnership with UAB PreLaw and the LifeCrafter team for The Justice Lab: The Untold Story of Sammie Lee Williams, an interactive public socio-trial examining the 1949 killing of Sammie Lee Williams by a white trolley operator in Birmingham, Alabama.

Rather than seeking a legal verdict, this socio-trial will bring together historical record, testimony, and community dialogue to explore what justice, repair, and restoration can look like today. It invites audience members to discuss unresolved harm, connect through shared experiences, and imagine meaningful paths toward community-led justice.

Judge Michael Streety will lead the evening’s deep dive, with live performances from Birmingham artists EverybodyknowsBenji, You Gene Write, and more.

We look forward to having you in the room and part of the conversation! Use the link in bio to RSVP for free.
