THE MAGIC CITY NETWORK CYPHER. An Open Call for the Underground Birmingham, step into the Multiverse.

The Magic City Network Cypher is an open call for performers, creators, and unconventional entertainers ready to bring their world to the stage at the Multiverse Ball.

We’re searching across three dimensions:

LIQUID FIRE
Pure, unapologetic passion. Raw talent, heightened emotion, fierce confidence, and the kind of performance that burns through the room.

NEON MIRAGE
Where illusion and reality blur. Fame, fantasy, nightlife, altered states, masks, transformation, glamour, and everything glowing between what is real and what we pretend is real.

CONCRETE JUNGLE
The collision of human emotion and the urban landscape. Survival. Respect. Street culture. Breaking free from structures and making your voice heard above the noise.

HOW IT WORKS

Submit a video of your act, 60 seconds or less, and choose the theme that best represents your performance.

The public will vote on submissions from each category.

ONE artist or act from each category will advance, creating THREE finalists.

Those three finalists will perform a 3–10 minute live set at the Multiverse Ball on November 21.

21+ TO ENTER / ENTRY FEE: $10
If you aren’t selected as a finalist, your $10 becomes admission to the Multiverse Ball. You may also choose to donate your entry fee instead.

Entries Open: August 21 – September 15
Public Voting: September 20 – October 15
Finalists Announced: October 20
Multiverse Ball: November 21

THE ALCHEMIST’S BOUNTY

Our finalists will compete for a creative development package designed to help push their artistry into its next dimension.

Bounty details will be revealed to finalists.

All participants will also receive access to Multiverse goodies, donated swag, gift cards, and more.

On September 8th, join The Flourish Alabama in partnership with UAB PreLaw and the LifeCrafter team for The Justice Lab: The Untold Story of Sammie Lee Williams, an interactive public socio-trial examining the 1949 killing of Sammie Lee Williams by a white trolley operator in Birmingham, Alabama.

Rather than seeking a legal verdict, this socio-trial will bring together historical record, testimony, and community dialogue to explore what justice, repair, and restoration can look like today. It invites audience members to discuss unresolved harm, connect through shared experiences, and imagine meaningful paths toward community-led justice.

Judge Michael Streety will lead the evening’s deep dive, with live performances from Birmingham artists EverybodyknowsBenji, You Gene Write, and more.

High Tea is our monthly live performance series which serves as an intimate space designed to put artists in front of new audiences, create professional opportunities, and celebrate the incredible talent growing right here in Birmingham and beyond.

We’re looking for artists who are ready to share their work, connect with new audiences, build their performance experience, meet other creatives, and get paid to do what they do.

What happens when a community comes together with music, art, food, culture, and a shared sense of pride?

Block in Bloom!

Presented by District 8 and The Flourish Alabama, Block in Bloom transformed the historic Ensley neighborhood into a vibrant celebration of creativity and community. From electrifying live performances and featured DJs to interactive workshops, local vendors, art exhibitions, delicious food, and family-friendly activities, this event showcased the very best of what happens when a neighborhood comes together.

This recap highlights just a glimpse of the unforgettable moments that made the day so special. Thank you to every performer, workshop instructor, vendor, volunteer, community partner, sponsor, and attendee who helped make Block in Bloom a success. Your energy, support, and commitment continue to prove that Ensley is a community rich with talent, culture, and opportunity.

A special thank you to the students of The Flourish Alabama’s Full Bloom Summer Academy, whose creativity and passion reminded us why investing in the next generation matters.
