We had such a GREAT time tonight chopping it up with the kiddos! 🥹❤️🍕

Now… NOT Miss Jesula outside thinking she was about to be out there running around with these kids playing FREEZE TAG. 😭😂

Baby, that was a SHORT-LIVED experience. 🤣🤣 I quickly remembered my role is to supervise, encourage, and cheer from the sidelines. 😂

But some good ole Duck, Duck, Goose and Red Light, Green Light to kick off the night?! Oh, we had a TIME! 🙌🏾

And thennnn… we had a little surprise photo shoot thrown into the mix. 📸👀✨

Cooking.
Playing.
Laughing.
Talking.
Building relationships.
Creating memories.

Sometimes it really is the simple moments that make the biggest impact. ❤️

Tonight was full of good energy, good food, happy kiddos, and plenty of laughs.

☕💬 Today’s tea? Communication is a whole skill, y’all. 😂🎤

It’s easy to say, “I told them how I felt,” but did we really communicate? Did we listen? Did we understand? Did we give the other person room to speak too? 👀

That’s what our What’s the Tea? session focused on today.

Our young people talked about what it means to communicate in ways that are respectful, clear, honest, and productive — especially when emotions are high or opinions are different.

A big thank you to Saida Burns-Moore from Binghamton University’s Center for Community Engagement for joining us and leading such a thoughtful and engaging conversation. 💜

One of the biggest takeaways?

Having a voice is powerful. Knowing how to use it is even more powerful.

We want our youth to know they can speak up, ask questions, disagree, advocate for themselves, and express what they need — without tearing somebody else down in the process.

And yes… we definitely talked about that little thing called tone. 😂 Because sometimes the message is fine, but the delivery? Whew. ☕😅

This is exactly why What’s the Tea? exists.

A space to talk.

What’s the Tea? is a youth-centered space where young people can talk about the things that actually matter to them—school, mental health, relationships, social media, family, community, their future and whatever else they feel needs to be discussed. The goal is simple: give our youth a safe space to speak, connect, learn and know that their voices matter.
