STEP-UP 2 SUCCESS is a transformative girls mentorship and performance-based program that empowers disengaged high school students to reconnect with their education through the art of stepping, academic support, and one-on-one mentorship.

✨ Building Skills Beyond the Classroom ✨

This week in STEP-UP 2 Success, our students participated in a powerful team-building session focused on conflict resolution skills led by Coach Anna. Through hands-on activities and real conversations, students practiced how to communicate, listen, and work through challenges together, skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom.

We also had a great moment of reflection as students gathered together, listening and learning from one another—reminding us how important it is to create space for every voice to be heard.

As we head into spring break, we’re proud of the growth we’re already seeing in our students!

📅 Reminder: There will be no programming during spring break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, April 14!

We are excited to kick off our first official week of STEP-UP 2 Success practices!

📅 Practices begin this Tuesday
⏰ 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Students should come ready to work hard, learn, and support their teammates as we begin building a strong foundation for the season.

Each practice will include:
⚾ Team skill development

We also provide water, snacks, pizza, and salad during practice so students can stay energized.

Step isn’t just performance — it’s HISTORY.

Step originated in African American fraternities and sororities and is rooted in African dance traditions where the body becomes the instrument. That means when our STEP-UP 2 Success girls stomp, clap, and chant — they’re not just performing…

🔥🥁 THEY DID THAT. 🥁🔥

Last night, our STEP-UP 2 Success Step Team took the stage for the very first time… and they left it ALL on the floor.

To say the girls were nervous would be an understatement. There were tears before. Deep breaths. Pep talks. Shaky hands. But what happened next? Growth. Courage. Sisterhood. Power.

They stepped out together — not just as individuals, but as a unit. Every stomp, every clap, every chant carried the weight of their hard work, their practices, their doubts, and their determination to push through anyway.

And they did it beautifully.

The debut performance was electric — but that wasn’t even the whole story.

A few of our girls made a LAST-MINUTE decision to enter the poetry slam. No weeks of prep. No overthinking. Just bravery. And guess what? They WON.

They stood on that stage and spoke about identity, strength, struggle, hope, and truth - and the room listened. They reminded us what it looks like to overcome fear in real time.

There were tears after, too. Tears of pride. Tears of accomplishment. Tears that come when you realize you just conquered something that once felt impossible.

Last night wasn’t just a performance.
It was a breakthrough.
It was unity.
It was resilience.
It was young women choosing courage together.

We are so proud of each and every one of them for showing up for each other and for themselves.

✨ BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM STEP-UP 2 SUCCESS! ✨

We are beyond excited to share that STEP-UP 2 Success will be making our debut performance at the CARES Black History Month Poetry Slam! 🖤
This is a huge milestone for our students, and we are so proud to showcase their hard work, confidence, and growth in community.

📣 Even more exciting news:
Beginning February 10, 2026, STEP-UP 2 Success will officially open enrollment to middle school students! A tryout announcement will be circulated shortly, so stay tuned if you or someone you know is interested in joining our STEP family.

We’re so excited to introduce our amazing program team - Coach Akilah, Project Management Intern Anna, and our Team Mascot Shadedria!

Each member of our team comes with extensive experience and training in trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, and working with teenagers - and they’re ready to make a difference!

Come meet a few of them at the Binghamton High School Open House this Thursday, October 16th at 5:30 PM to learn more and sign up for the program!
