We don't do one big fundraiser a year and call it done. Every quarter, The Family Recovery Foundation picks a new initiative because families in recovery need different kinds of support at different times. More on this quarter's focus soon.

The Family Recovery Foundation is building a Little Free Library a 'take a book, leave a book' mailbox located just off the driveway at Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center.

We're collecting recovery-related books for the community: memoirs of recovery, addiction education, mental health, spirituality/mindfulness, and books on rebuilding relationships and family healing. One note : we can't include books that glorify substance use or focus on drug/alcohol culture without a recovery lens.

The mailbox will be up by October 10th. If you have books to donate before then, Msdatc staff will happily hold onto them for you.

Recovery is your work. No one can do it for you.

But there are things in the way you can't fix on your own. Rent due before the first paycheck clears. No ride to an appointment. A lost ID.

Everybody's had a version of that — the car that wouldn't start on the one morning it mattered, the bill that landed the same week as another one. Most people have somebody to call. A lot of the families we work with don't.

What's the smallest thing that ever nearly cost you something big?

Getting into an Oxford House takes a deposit and a week's rent up front. If you've just left treatment and haven't started working yet, that money doesn't exist.

We paid the deposit and two weeks — one more than required, so there was some room before the first paycheck.

It's hard to look for a job when you're already behind on rent.
