We hope everyone has had safe and joyful holidays! We're celebrating another year of mutual aid, and we need your help to continue!

This year we've been able to distribute money, food, and supplies to hundreds of folks in our community! We've redistributed over $20,000 to people right here in Southwest Virginia, helping to keep lights on, feed families, repair cars and homes, and other vital needs. Our community fund is running low - please consider making a donation today to help us continue in 2026!

hello good people!
For this week's resilient communities working group call-- Tuesday at 1:00p-- we're talking mutual aid again. So many of our members are coordinating care for their communities always but especially right now, and we've had a couple requests to bring together mutual aid groups from across the region to check in on each other. Will you join us?

We're going to make time learn from each other what the lay of the land is currently, what’s important to know about disaster response work, and hear each other's offers and needs.

🌟 Coming Together for Our Community: A Day of Care and Connection 🌟

This weekend, Lonesome Pine Mutual Aid, Cumberland Mountain Mutual Aid , the Care Collective and friends joined forces to support our beloved mountain community. 🤝 We're overjoyed to share the success of our latest distribution event that brought together neighbors helping neighbors. ❤️

We distributed 50 emergency preparedness bags, each thoughtfully assembled with essential items to help our community members stay ready and resilient. ⚡️ Each bag included:
- 📻 Handcrafted emergency radios to keep our community connected
- 🚰 Durable water bottles for staying hydrated
- 🔊 Emergency whistles for safety
- 🏥 Comprehensive first aid kits
- 🧵 Practical sewing kits for repairs
- 💧 Water purification tablets
- 🧼 Essential hygiene products
- 🌸 Reproductive health supplies

The heart of our gathering was the shared meal that brought everyone together. 🍲 Our wonderful volunteers prepared a hearty chicken and bean soup served with warm, fresh cornbread. Nothing builds community quite like breaking bread together! 🥖

Beyond the emergency kits, we also conducted a grocery distribution, providing pantry staples to help stock our neighbors' shelves. 🥫 These distributions remain a crucial part of our ongoing work to ensure food security in our region.

We're especially thankful to our friends from the Blue Ridge 💙 who gathered and drove down 5 cars full of donations to Dickenson County, showing that mutual aid knows no boundaries. 🚗 Your dedication to supporting our mountain communities means the world to us! ⛰️

We're deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and resources to make this event possible. 🙏 From our dedicated volunteers who assembled the go-bags and prepared the meal, to every community member who joined us – you make our mutual aid network strong. ✨

Remember: We take care of us! When we come together, we build stronger, more resilient communities. 💪

What does Community Work look like? It looks like a network of mutual aid groups like the Pulaski County Free Store, Holler 2 Holler (Blacksburg), (Narrows), Lonesome Pine Mutual Aid (Big Stone Gap), Cumberland Mountain Mutual Aid (Kentucky), and
Aid (Kentucky) binding together to make sure their communities and surrounding communities are taken care of.

What does it look like when hearts have hands?

It looks like a trailer load of items such as 5-gallon buckets, 100 cases of water, muck boots, baby formula, diapers, at least 8 heaters, toilet paper, paper towels, hygiene products, feminine hygiene products cleansing products, canned foods, clothes, and many other items are unloaded from one trailer to another to be dispatched to those who are in such need.

Thank you to everyone who made this load possible. Thank you to those who made donations, those who loaded and unloaded the trailers, and those who drove and delivered. Those two small words are nowhere near strong enough but we echo them from the rooftops…THANK YOU!
