FOWIL volunteers are working hard to get Wood Island back in shape for our July and August tour season. Our “Woodchuck” volunteers are now heading out to the island every Tuesday to work on a variety of maintenance projects including lawn care, taking care of the flowerbeds, and cleaning the lighthouse. We’ve started or will soon be starting new projects for this season including installing a sump pump in the basement, replacing a sill in the boathouse, replacing gutters on the Keeper's house, and replacing a section of the boardwalk. We are always looking for more volunteers to help us!

Reservations are now open for our July and August tours and may be made through our website. If you haven't been out to the island in a few year, come check out all the improvements that have been made.

To all the Moms out there - Happy Mother's Day from the American Lighthouse Foundation!

Shown here are the wives of lighthouse keepers with their children at Maine's Petit Manan Light Station during the 1930s.

Our President & CEO, Mark Jones, recently shared this photo from a late‑night paddle out to Wood Island — and the story behind it is just as memorable 🌙

After noticing the lighthouse appeared lit, Mark and his friend Tyler Kimbar reached out to the Friends of Wood Island Light, who confirmed via surveillance camera that the lights had actually been off earlier in the night. Their response?

“Just our resident ghosts letting you know they were there… and knew you were there.” 👻

A quiet Maine night, a glowing lighthouse, and a little mystery — moments like these remind us why we love this place we call home.
